This video, from a Long Island newscaster, and the companion video, linked below it, are very positive reports from a reporter exploring "the gun culture" for the first time. Coming on the same day as the Oregon Mall shooting, and being the next CNN.com article after the Mall report, I believe they'll be helpful to CCW.

Congrats to the lady for putting out what I would consider to be an unbiased news report, given her lack of previous experience. She told it like it was....and even the verbiage was correct (something you rarely see in the media these days).

All the so called "gun grabbers" are armed with such gross mis information about firearms as a whole, I see that as the biggest problem. Some you will never convince, but many might change therir view if just given some accurate facts about different guns. The one that this guy nailed in the video was comparing a black gun to a traditional gun and told her it's just paint, that's it.

Eh, give it a few years and she'll have a screen name here on THR. :D

I think she did well. Wonder if the story was born out of HER curiosity or, if the dictate flowed from above.

BTW: Did Emily EVER get HER gun?

LOL & TNX fer the grin.

Very impressive videos. I needed both that grin and the "boost" these vids gave me. I'm pleasantly surprised that CNN put these out. The litmus seeems to be changing color.

Thanks, beretta professor!

I think I'll go get me some 5-hour energy drink now.

It seemed, to me , that she wanted to tell them that it was FUN, but didn't want to admit it.:D

Just my opinion.
I got that opinion as well, it was as if she was afraid to say she enjoyed it.

I honestly believe that most people with the exception of the extreme antis would have a change of heart if they only gave it a shot.

Incredibly unbiased..... I am shocked at her openminded attitude, shame that this will not air on the primetime news.

Made my day a hair better, seeing an anti go at least to "on the fence", thanks for posting!

Sort of unbelievable, really. That video was nicely done, and even though I have seen them start out like that, they usually end with a "nevertheless..." moment where the news person shares the ultimate need for yet more gun control. This didn't have that flavor, and it actually shocked me at how normal it all seemed. Huh.

That was nice. A reporter actual took the initiative to report on a controversial subject and to be, almost totally honest. After she shot a nice tight group and was asked “how did you like that?” I was waiting for THAT WAS GREAT. Instead she chose her words carefully. I would like to see a. Reporter’s day at the range. Then maybe we could get some honest reports instead of just negative reports.

There needs to be a lot more of this type of honest journalism from our MSM. The reporter couldn't repress her smile after shooting a few of those "scary" black rifles!

Nice job on posting this. I linked it to facebook, it's a realistic approach to a misunderstood subject.

Well done. She seems as smart as she looks and speaks. I'd be happy to take her to the range anytime.
I just would have rather heard her say, instead of "If I lived alone in the country, could I see myself owning..." something more like "If I lived in a city like my current home city, but one that permitted me to own one, could I see myself..." But, I guess the story of what she feels about her city's strict citizen-control laws are more appropriate for a different report..

I liked it and thought she gave a pretty even handed stance.
Although she, just like my girlfriend states that she's not sure she could pull the trigger on someone.
I can understand if they are talking about a cold blooded murder but someone breaking into your home and assaulting you I just can't wrap my mind around them not reacting to that.

She appears to have gone into the story with an open mind (which is a rare thing).

And when she talked to some articulate and rational people with logical arguments and first hand experience (instead of a bigoted illiterate wacko) she started to connect the dots in her own mind.

I think she was trying hard not to crack a big grin on the range.

Daring to think for yourself is not certified safe. Logic will take you places the "handlers" don't want you to go.

Wow! Made my day! She came into it very openminded. Kinda surprising actually. And the "professionals" really were professionals!

It seemed, to me , that she wanted to tell them that it was FUN, but didn't want to admit it.:D

Just my opinion.

Oh yeah! Those smiles at 0:15 and 1:20 on the second video says it all! I bet "off the record" she admitted it was fun. Also, at 2:00 she admitted being torn between fascination and fear. For a first time shooter, this is terrific.

My bet: She wants to continue this and maybe be a gun owner herself. If the shop owner were to invite her back (on her own time) I bet she would jump on it.

Also: the LGS owner, the instructor and security consultant were right on the money with all of their comments. They deserve much praise for their calm, knowledgeable, well worded responses. Great stuff!

Virtually anybody that gives shooting a chance, an honest open-minded chance, have a good time. The only time that a person didn't have fun shooting with me was when a smaller-framed lady, shot my .45 pistol. It was too much, but she loved my 9mm.

If we could just get people who don't like guns who have never shot one to go to the range, I think that a lot of minds would be changed. I have a lot more respect for someone who has tried shooting before disliking it.

South Shore Sportsman is one of the more respected shops on Long Island. I just thought I'd add that comment. Well done guys!
