Long Range Load Development

Interesting read but does not apply to most production guns these days due to long leads. With some of the production guns your bullet want fit the magazine and may not even be in the necks trying to reach the lands.

That’s the limitation with most hunting rifles. To wring the last bit of accuracy out of them you often need to seat the bullet past mag length.

Not that big of a deal. This it were I need to manage my expectations. Do I need to have 5 shots through the same hole with a hunting rig? Of course not. I’m I going back to the range again to try? You bet I am ;)

Yes sir ‘ a definite challenge for my Tikka 308 , the author also neck sizes which may vary from other reloaders routine. Still IMO a good read with the author showing solid direction and confidence in his method.

I'll have to experiment with that - seating beyond mag length, requiring hand-feeding a round at a time. My to-the-limit mag length has me a country mile off the lands.

Timely article. Understand the possible issue you guys are talking about regarding the magazine. However, the writer's approach is so logical. Love how he picks a the powder charge the gives similar results to powder charges slightly above and below. Eliminates the need to worry about getting that powder measurement absolutely perfect, every single time you reload.

I will try this out as I begin to develop my 308 loads. Pete

I had a Savage model 12 in a 308 that had a tight chamber as in mag length was on the lands but where I ended up ( best accuracy seating depth) was a .015 jump fitting easily into the magazine.
you won’t know until you know...

berger bullets like a bit of jump to the lands. my 270 win hunting load uses 130gn bergers. it fits in the magazine and is very accurate.
