Long range rifle

I have a Remington LH- 40X-7.62 MM NATO with RPA sights with the front sight being a ladder sight for elevation. I've shot it out to a thousand yards from prone position hugging mother earth.

Never played with a sightron. I much prefer ffp for anything serious. I have some sfp scopes on some of my rifles and they are fine for what they do.

I have one to share - just after adding the muzzle brake.

Savage BA Stealth 6.5 Vortex scope, factory blue printed. The second image is first time out, shooting some groups, after I ran a break in on the barrel.

That’s a neat set up. Definitely unique. What’s the situation with the dampener on the barrel?
The black “donut” is a deresonator. It can dampen barrel vibrations and it can have better effects near the muzzle vs near the end of the stock. Different loads can also require a different location for the donut, so the only way o know is to shoot a lot and keep good notes. I put it on after the first shots were in about a 1 1/2” group. I lightened the trigger pull and the changes made a .273” group with Hornady 140 grain SSTs. I left the donut on. It also helps with carrying the rifle a bit since the hand won’t slip down the barrel. My 257 Wby wears one too.

Definitely for harmonics. I’m curious as to why that ended up being the solution and what exactly it alleviated
A deresonator made a big difference a 243 WSSM with a pencil-thin barrel. That rifle is much more of a “One Load” hunting rifle than the 1924 Mauser / Creedmoor in the picture.
The stock is a Boyd’s laminate Sporter with three coats of linseed oil under three coats of matte tung oil. This gives a little bit of a sticky grip. It is also bedded to about 1” beyond the recoil lug. Overall, the stock is weatherproof for anything I’m going to have in southwest Kansas.

Easy to forget the days of old with all the new tech and advancement. The art of a cold bore zero I think is often forgotten. Just as you said a one shot hunting rifle. Some of the first rifles I ever shot as a kid were just that.

Seekins Precision build with Dracos 6.5 Grendel barrel topped with a Bushnell Forge 2.5-15x50. Really solid rifle and that Forge is a lot of scope for the money.

Another build and chambered in 223 Wylde. Mostly JP Enterprises parts. Also sporting a Bushnell Forge. SWR Specwar can.

Very true walkalong, my rifle is as accurate as I am whether it’s the first shot or the 20th. I see a lot of guys take a production rifle and try to shoot groups and come up disappointed thinking that they bought a gun that isn’t accurate. Experienced shooters know the short comings of basic factory rifles and how to improve the results. Average everyday casual shooters can end up frustrated.

I’m all about cold bore one shot groups. It’s the most important shot.

today after 8 hours of conference calls I decided to go take a shot. I took two then came home. First shot was on the 3” black circle over the right shoulder of the large white hostage. The bullet flipped it upside down so it’s hanging at an odd angle now (it was a bit lower when i hit it). Second shot is the shiny spot on the head of the black bad guy behind the small white ipsc hostage to the left. that head is also 3” but it is partially obscured by the head of the white hostage so the target only has about 1.5" exposed. Range was 415 yards. DA 3000’. No wind. Dope tracked pretty well obviously. Rifle is shown in post 37

Bolt gun is an AI/AT with a Gradous 6.5 Creedmoor barrel. Gun shoots great but next barrel is going to be a 26 inch tube to up the velocity a bit without loading too hot. AR is a BCM SS410 upper. It shoots sub MOA with match ammo but mostly I just shoot 55 grain ball which shoots sub 2 MOA. I use it out to 600 yards regularly with the ball ammo. Has gone to 900 with 77 grain Black Hills and IMI.

January 2020 I took the AI out to a mile with some friends. They had multiple rifles but the custom 300 WinMags made the trip to a mile a lot easier than the 6.5s did. HAHA.

The mile target is in the saddle between the two mountains.

3 shot group on the 500 yard target with the AI. Impact just above the top impact of the group was from the AR. Glock used for reference in measuring.

Went to my first long range match a little over 2 years ago at the time I had put together a 1 in 7 243 AR and had a Savage bolt in 300 win mag, but I had short notice of match and neither was ready. The only thing I had any confidence in and enough ammo was my 16" recce build. 20191221_090933~2.jpg It's an impressive gun for what it is and I even managed to get a hit on the 800 yard target.
White Oak Barrel, Geissele G2S trigger and Leupold 3-9X mark AR.
Fast forward the 300 is gone (too expensive to feed) and replaced with a RPR 6 Creed, the 243 barrel has been changed to 6 Creed as well and I've built a 224 Valkyrie.
The RPR is stock save for the Sandman Ti and bipod the ARs both have Geissele triggers and right now share a Gemtech One, but an OSS is in jail for the AR10 all three wear Vortex HS-T scopes.

A little bit of proud dad here. The 20” gong was tagged three times (4.75”) from 1,000 yards by my son with his 308 Win. The stock and action are from McMillen, I don’t know the barrel maker, and he used a Leupold VX-III scope. It was either Sierra 168 grain or 175 grain Match Kings —— I don’t remember. The weirdest thing is he didn’t not have a spotter. He said as soon as he heard a hit, he fired the next two as fast as he could before the wind changed. Nowadays the barrel on the action is a heavy 6.5mm Creedmoor. It likes the same loads as my 1924 Mauser Creedmoor.
