I'd love some recommendations on a great set of powders, one for practice or economy rounds (10mm prolly ain't cheap either way!) and maybe one for max effort but here's the main caveat:
All I can get right now are Magnum Primers. I have 1000. Plus 1000 new Starline 10mm brass.

I have read one decent thread on THR about using a Magnum primer in 10mm Auto but there was little info about powders, so I'm asking here.

I have a 6.6" LWD/Glock combo, a 6.5" Kriss Vector, a 6" Tanfoglio Witness Hunter and may also have a standard G20 barrel in 4.6" but will likely just get a short slide threaded barrel if I go back to a carry Glunk setup (G20)

I know barrel length has little to do with it, but I figure pushing a hotter load thru a barrel 2" longer will maybe add a little more area under the curve if I use a Magnum primer.

Been a long time, TOO LONG, but it's good to be back and I see the info here is still very relevant and precise

You don't mention a bullet weight so shall assume 180-200 neighborhood. For hard-charging rounds, Longshot and Accurate #9 will serve you very well. Blue Dot is also popular - no experience with it. W231 or Accurate #5 at/just above min loads for plinking. Some powders are dirty-burners at/near min charge.

Don't sweat the mag primers. Work-up from starting loads or 10% off max. Regardless, if substituting a mag for std primer I then steer clear of max book loads. Enjoy!

Just shove the Mag primers in there, start low and look for pressure signs!

WELCOME TO RELOADING!

The only dumb questions are the one’s I ask.

Yes, 180gr

I have some heavier stuff but needs resized down because we wanted to run a heavy thumper but we backed off that proposition because it's just too easy to make 45 ACP heavy (subs and super) and we have the firearms for that too. ‍♂️

Thanks for reminding me of bullet weights, I did extensive research there, just need to find the data I saved.

That is a good list, I'm sure I can prolly find at least one of those, or more.

Follow-up question, are any of those gonna overlap with 9mm? Also planning on loading that too, if I can find spp's in regular or Magnum. I have a friend who wants my mini-AK as a partial trade...

Don’t trade your guns for primers man! you waited this long, wait a bit more

Going by what's available online I'd say @Herman B 's list is a good start.

I'm seeing and have found for myself all of the Accurate mid-range powders: No.5, No.7, and No.9. No.2 is too fast for 10m/m and Ramshot Enforcer is probably too slow - but I haven't had a chance to try it yet so, I'm not really sure. Ramshot Silhouette has been popping up at Powder Valley pretty regularly but they're out right now. Keep an eye on the availability thread: https://www.thehighroad.org/index.p...iscussion-thread-link-required.883031/page-42

I would grab a bottle of universal or unique to start if you can and then grab a bottle of a mag powder to give you better velosity. If you were only loading 10 then just getting one powder would make sense but if your needs cross many calibers 9mm 10mm and more then having a utility powder on hand makes sense. My utility powder is siholloette.

Silhouette sounds like a great recommendation and universal and I have a friend who uses unique a lot.

Accurate # 5, 7, 9,

Compiling these recommendations now...

Accurate #9 may give top velocity in 10mm but is not near as universal as #5. My experience so far says the accurate powders are not as easily swapped in. Hs-6 is a powder loved by some but would not be a great all purpose powder.

All in all, I will check these out for the intended calibers then make the choice. Need to do it before I see it in stock, get me a priorities list I guess.
