I enjoy shooting 100 meter pigs at the NRA Whittington Center. This is a lever action range but using a rest I can knock down 5 of 6 with a 7 1/2" .45 single action army. One day I tried it with a 2" Smith & Wesson K frame and surprised myself by knocking down 2 of 6. Of course the conditions were ideal and the iron pigs weren't shooting back. IMHO, no handgunner should be a stranger to 50yd shooting. There's nothing saying that your antagonist can't shoot at you from 50yds or more. The first situation I found myself in where I thought I might have to use my carry weapon for self defense, my antagonist was 30yds away and armed with a rifle. I was in the open, wearing a heavy tool belt and all I had was a pocket .32. Simple fact is that you do not get to choose the time, place or circumstances in which the fight for your life occurs.

I only train with Snubbies and 22.cals . I focus on fast drawing and hits to center mass at the distance I believe a true assault or confrontation would be. at that is between 7-15yds.
Plinking with a 22,cal yes, longer yardage.
