All,
I checked my Speer manual and the Hodgen website and can't find any load data for 124gr using Longshot powder. I found recipes for 115gr but nothing on 124gr. I have 4lbs of Longshot and little of my other powders. As always your help is appreciated!

My One Caliber book shows 5.0 to 5.7 for a 125 gr. LCN for Longshot

124 GR. BERB HBRN TP Hodgdon Longshot .356" 1.150" 4.8 958 23,000 PSI 5.8 1135 32,300 PSI

From Hodgdon's website

Like said above, if you don't see load data for a 124gr bullet use the load data for a 125gr bullet with confidence. I don't usually load a lead or plated bullet with Longshot in the 9mm. I like W231/HP-38 much better. With a 124/125gr lead/plated bullet I charge between 4.0gr and 4.4gr W231.

I have been loading 5.5 gr of Longshot with a 124 gr RN plated bullet @1.135" OAL and it has proven to be very accurate and pretty clean.

I am using Xtreme's plated bullets which has a heavier plating than all the others except for the Speer Gold Dot which is about the same as the Xtreme.

If you are using plated bullets with thinner plating, especially Ranier's, you should drop your charge down to lower midrange and start working up slowly watching for leading. You may find with Raniers that this load is to hot.

5.5 gr of Longshot really shoots nice out of my Shield (3.1"barrel) so out of a longer barrel it should do better. I have no unburned powder, flash is not noticed at all, and recoil and flash is much better than a full dose of Power Pistol, and I don't have hardly any black soot on the mouth of my empty shells, and no split cases.
