Dad and I went hunting today. We were in a spot where we had seen a grouse last year. Nothing happened the first half hour we were out there. Then Dad went down a small trail while I went parallel to him in the woods.
I had fallen behind a little bit. (My gun was pointing to my left, away from Dad, however, so that was good.) All of a sudden, from a bush next to me, WHOOSH! a grouse blasts out and away from me. Dad took a shot at it as it crossed the trail, but missed. I could've shot at it, but I'm glad I didn't. Being behind Dad as I was, that could've been very bad.
So we had an eventful (and safe) day in the woods on the last day of bird season until December. Deer season may officially take over now.
