Look what I won at Gunbroker!

Interesting. It has a hammer block safety and hammer-mounted firing pin.

Do "The Checkout" REAL thoroughly, with special attention to it still having a working safety. With a hammer block, it's possible for it to break off and the gun still fire - lacking any safety at all. At which point either fix it or be VERY careful to keep the hammer down on an empty.

Also: don't dry-fire this gun, period, not without proper snap-caps. The firing pin is a bit of a weak spot.

On edit: I'm not saying it's a bad gun, m'kay? If it passes the checkout it will likely be a very good shooter/plinker and in a pinch, a defensive gun.

Don't you love winning something when it is something you really want? Very nice win. Now go to the gallery and test her out:)

Nice looking revolver at a good price. Like all guns some have had problems but Taurus makes a better handgun than some here will admit including remarks from a number of people who have never handled one much less shot one:p

I have always had good luck with the Taurus, it is under warranty, so all you have to do is go to the webpage if you have a problem...They will fix.

Good buy. Congratulations:)

If it passes the checkout it will likely be a very good shooter/plinker and in a pinch, a defensive gun.

In a pinch? Since when is a .38 Spl revolver subpar for self-defense?

Virgil, this gun's "power to size ratio" isn't that good. You're carrying a lot of metal for the total effective stopping power on tap.

Aside from that: older Taurus/Rossi wheelguns aren't...well, not the best possible guns in the world. My first wheelgun was a Rossi 357, model 971 I believe - had a funky 3" barrel plus a 1/2" compensator extension. Broke two firing pins in a row while actually shooting, sold it the moment it was fixed yet again.

I only trust guns for defensive roles that are stone-cold reliable. And without an extensive checkout and THEN shooting 500+ rounds through it, I wouldn't feel comfortable about the gun in discussion here. Newer Taurii have issues, but the older Rossis and importer's-marks Taurii (from before they opened their FL office) have a fairly poor reputation.

Ah, you mean for concealed carry. I can see that facet, I was thinking just as a nightstand gun. There's certainly "better" CCW choices that give you more power or more shots, but I don't see any real problems with this gun specifically.

As for quality and reliability, we'll just have to differ on that issue.

Hey guys,

No need to argue on my account. I own more than enough SD guns. I was enjoying browsing on Gunbroker and stumbled across this one. My GF who is just learning to shoot commented on it. I put in a bid I thought would never fly and ended up as the high bidder. I also like to tinker with guns and have already downloaded a schematic for the S&W counterpart. As far as the safety is concerned, since I don't live in Ka., I will likely alter the gun anyway. If I haven't managed to shoot myself with any of the SA's I own I doubt I'll start now.

Thanks for your feedback.

It has that cool 80's cobra look. My friend had one in 357 and it was an exellent gun in every way. Good luck
