Looking for 260 remington wisdom (especially sako owners)

Hey gents. I bought a new in box Sako 75 grey wolf chambered in 260 from I fellow. It was sort of an impulse buy. But, I've always wanted a Sako and I love 6.5mm rounds. So, I broke the barrel in, bought some Winchester 243 brass and lapua 260 brass. Now I'm developing loads.

I shot the rifle today. Shoots pretty nice. Shot 120 SMKs over reloader 19 powder in lapua brass. It shot well within sako's guarantee. Then I shot some 90gr speers in necked up 243 brass. No go on those. Couldn't hit a barn. What I am looking for is what grain bullets your 260s like to eat. Especially sakos with 1-9 barrels. I feel the rifle can do better. Hopefully this is in the right section. Maybe it doesn't like the light bullets.

I'd be shooting anything in the 120-130ish grain class with that barrel. Never shot anything lighter than that.

My 8.5 twist 260 shoots 95 grain VMax bullets amazingly well over Varget at about 3250 FPS. While you might be able to sling the heavy 140 grain bullets, the sweet spot for that twist might be the 120-130 grain bullet. I've tried a lot of combos, and I keep coming back to Lapua 123 scenars over H-4350, shooting about 2,950 FPS.

Thanks for the input guys. I have some 130 accubonds I will try for a whitetail load this coming fall. I also have some vmaxes on hand. Too bad I bought 200 100gr barnes to shoot for whitetail.

Barnes are long for the weight. Get them .050-.070" off the lands & they might do well for you. I use 120TTSX in my Swede with excellent results.

I've worked some TSX 120gr through my 24" 8.5 twist. Using IMR 4350. 130gr Accubonds with RE19.

With the 1-9 you will likely do the best with 120-130gr bullets. Both my savage .260s are 1-8 and I shoot 142gr SMKs. The Remington I sold had 1-9 and I shot 123gr AMAX out of it. I would look at the 123gr AMAX and 130gr Scenars. Also may want to go to H4350 for powder as it is really the gold standard for the .260
