Just procured a 4 lb. jug of Alliant Power Pistol. I would like to use this powder to load up some 230 gr. Golden Saber hp's I've got laying around. Any pet loads out there using this powder for 230 gr. hp's? thanks.

The loads may sound anemic--but I guarantee you when you're talking about Power Pistol, the name says it all!

I load it for 230 grain ball ammo; I have had good results when using 6.3-6.5 under the 230 grain bullet, loaded to the same OAL as a ball round, and crimped to .470 at the case mouth. I run a 20 lb spring in my Colt, and it works just fine.

7.2g of Power Pistol works great. I don't have a chronograph but compared to my target load of 4.0g of Clays with a 230g bullet it is very fast and hits hard.

Patrolman, I have not chronographed the load--but it has more snap to it than the 230 grain HydraShok load we used to use for duty. However, pressure signs are non existent.

357mag357, your load of 7.2 grains (IIRC) is either approaching a max load or exceeds it. Power Pistol is a VERY high energy powder. Be VERY careful with it! In my guns 6.8 grains is actually painful to shoot.

7.0gr Power Pistol, under a 230gr fmj. My Kimber UCII grouped best with this load. 816fps out of a 3" barrel:)

MAX LOAD!

I use Power Pistol 7.5gr with 230gr .45ACP XTP for 950fps in my 1911.

great +P performance.

MAX LOAD!

Power Pistol was used in 45 Super experiment.

I use 7 grains in my CCW and hunting loads with 230 grain XTP's.

Gets 830 fps from my 4.25 inch barrel. Almost, but not hardly, a +P load...I only load hot enough to get performance equal to a 5 inch barrel.
