Long drawn out opinion alert.
I own a glock, and maybe I'm a bit of a fanboi. But the first time I picked one up, it was not at all confidence-inspiring. The grip was thick and slick, the trigger was weird (the break felt... uhh.. crappy?), and the muzzle felt way too light (even though it was a 17C!). I was SURE I wouldn't be able to shoot it as well as some of the other guns I was using in that same session. Those other guns were: Beretta 92FS, a Colt 1911 Mark-something, a P220, a P228, and a very old P7M8. Well, color me wrong. The top honors were a tie between the P220 and the Glock 17C - not necessarily in that order. I shot both of these extremely well. So well did the Glock suit me that I was able to determine, after only two mags, that the first (hand-cycled) round was printing just a hair to the right!
For some reason, this particular P228 was nowhere near as accurate as any of the other guns on this day, with this ammo... When I mentioned this to the rangemaster, he took offense. Turns out he was carrying one as his personal firearm, and he insisted I try his. I shot out his mag, which was loaded with Black Talons, and I gotta say.. his shot twice as bad as the range gun using cheapo ammo! God knows why, cuz I was driving tacks with the P220.
I did not shoot the Beretta quite as accurately as the Glock, but that was partially due to the horribly tiny and miserably thin iron sights. The trigger was great, and it was very fast on the followup shots.
My vote for a 9mm RANGE gun is the Beretta, cuz it's plenty accurate, feels wonderful, and looks great. It also has all the bells and whistles - DA/SA, decocker, and safety. For max accuracy... well, you gotta try them for yourself, because with pistols, results will vary with the user!
