Ok so I am looking to get a new 22 hornet rifle.
The problem that im finding is that there really isn't a great selection out there.
I really like the Ruger 10/22 Target. I like the Grey Laminate stock, I really like how the bull barrel isnt a normal barrel.
But of course it dosn't come in 22 hornet.
So dose anyone know where i can find one like this or where i can get the parts to (reasonabuly priced) make one?

Thanks

Good luck there. Ammo for it will be just as hard to find as the rifle itself. Personally, id step up to the 22.250. Much better ammo choices and availability as well as rifle choices.

Do you mean a 77/22H bolt rifle?
10/22s aren't made in .22 Hornet caliber.

CZ produces the 527 in .22 Hornet in several variations.
Magazine fed and far better made and more accurate than most factory Ruger .22 Hornets.

What i was saying was that i really like the look of the Ruger 10/22 target.
I just wish it came in 22 hornet. And i was wondering if anyone knew of a 22 hornet rifle out there with a Grey Laminate stock and a stainless barrel.

Here is a link to the Ruger offerings, they do offer the Hornet in a walnut/blued version.

As mentioned CZ makes a couple of modles and Browning Chambers it in the A-Bolt Micro (if you can find one)

I was thinking that I wanted a Hornet as well but the limited availablity of firearms made me change my mind and I am going to go with a 223 instead.

Good Luck,
David

I was wondering if it would be posibull to convert that ruget 10/22 target model to a 22WMR?
This gun will be used to teach my sun how to shoot and will also be used as a plinkin/squirl rifle.
So a 223 would be overkill and i dont think my son would enjoy that very much, not yet.
I was leaning twards the 22 hornet just because it has a bit more power than the 22WMR and the ammo is much cheaper than my 7Mag.

anyone know any custom gun shops out there that can piece me together a rifle like im looking for or convert that Ruger 10/22 target to a 22WMR for me?

If .22 WMR is an option, and you're not wedded to the 10/22, you might want to look for a Remington 597 in that chambering. I lucked into one a few months ago, brand new -- it must have been sitting on the shelf for ages.

I stuck a Nikon Prostaff 4x12 mil-dot scope on it, bought a bunch of magazines from Midway and Natchez, and really like the 'ell out of it... :)

I like my 77/22 in .22 Hornet. It will do under 1 MOA with reasonable consistency. Yea, it throws shots sometimes, but for what it is and what it cost, I am happy with it. I recently tried Trail Boss in it and it shot very well at .22 Mag velocities. A really fun gun. There are better choices if accuracy is paramount, but the 77/22 ain't bad, is relatively inexpensive, and lots of fun.

Walkalong or anybody else with Hornet experience. How does the report from the Hornet compare to that of a 223? Are you reloading for the Hornet? I was not terribly concerned with ammo cost or availabilty because I will reload for what ever cartridge I get. I was just curious how well your reloads are shooting. I was looking for a 150yd gun to tote around in the truck and thought the Hornet would be a good choice. I had talked myself out of it and decided on 223, but I haven't put the money down yet. So I may still end up with the Hornet.

Yes, I reload for the .22 Hornet. The Hornet is a good bit quieter than the .223. It burns about half as much powder. It is fully capable of 150 yard shots offhand on medium size animals. With a rest it could handle small animals.

The report using Trail Boss is very quiet, but drops your effective range to around 100 yards. (IMHO)

i have a older cz 680 in 22 hornet with double set triggers,it will shoot i inch groups with rem 45gr shells at 100yds. its a good turkey gun,i shot this one on tuesday with it. eastbank.

There are a few 10/22 magnums on gunbroker.com, but being discontinued, they are premium priced.
I think the Remington 597 is the only U.S. made semi-auto in 22 magnum available now.

If you reload, you can always download a 222 or 223 to hornet velocities.

I have a Cz-527 K-Hornet and it shoots amazingly well. Lil' Gun and small pistol primers are ideal for the hornet.

I went with the 'k' since I can still shoot regular hornet, and brass now lasts a lot longer. The sloping neck of the standard just results in too much brass flow. The conversion is as simple as running a K Hornet reamer into a hornet chamber.

Hornet, K-Hornet and 223

My last was a K Hornet and I completely agree with GunTech.
The report is nowhere near as sharp as the .223 and downright quiet compared to a .22/250 or .243

Just a bit louder and just a touch more recoil than a .22 Winchester rimfire magnum round fired in a comparable length barrel.

A friend of mine improved the accuracy potential of a 77/22H by replacing the factory barrel with a Shilen made barrel and glass and pillar bedding the stock.

His rifle shoots as well as any other and better than most.
It retains the original Hornet chamber.

Sooooo, what exactly is the difference between K hornet and just a regular hornet?
And i know its off subject but its my post. lol
I came across this Shooter depot Internaly supressed Ruger 77 in 22LR It looks just like the regular rifle but with a Bull barrel. Apparently the only think you here is the firing pin hit. Sounds pretty cool.

GunTech's pictures illustrate the difference between the Hornet and K-Hornet. When loaded to their potential, the K-Hornet will give you a 100-200 feet per second increase in velocity. The biggest advantage with the K-Hornet is that you can headspace on the shoulder instead of the rim, increasing the case life and accuracy.

If you have the money, buy a Cooper rifle. I have a lightweight sporter (in K-Hornet) that will shoot 1/4" groups at 50 yds. and could probably do better than that if the person behind the rifle actually knew what he was doing. ;-)

It seems to me that there was someone out there making a 10/22 action for the .22 WMR. Just checked, it is Magnum Research. Website www.magnumresearch.com
The advantage is that you can buy factory ammo for less than if you are buying Hornet ammo.

i had a savage md. 23 in .22 hornet for many years and it shot very well and then a win 43 in .22 hornet came along, i never could get it to shoot well(3 inch groups at 50 yds),the 43 looked just like new inside and out. i than got this fox-2, a early 70,s cz in .22 hornet and it shoots the same ammo as the win.43 into 1 inch groups at 100yds with the same leupold 2x7 scope. it is now my favorite walk around and turkey rifle.eastbank.
