I'd like to jump into this discussion also since I own and shoot two Hornet rifles both Rugers. The first is a heavy barreled 77/22 that I had rechambered for the K-Hornet to increase case life, and my other rifle is a model 1B in the standard Hornet. My K-Hornet will shoot 3/4'' groups at 100 yards with the 45 gr Hornady bullet and Lil Gun powder. My 1B will just shoot under 1'' with the same bullet and AA #1680 powder( haven't had the chance to work up loads with Lil Gun yet). Both Hornets are accurate, quiet rounds that will do anything a 223 will do up to a mid size varmint such as a fox or coyote w/o destroying the pelt or alerting every game animal for miles. I believe that Ruger discontinued their #1 rifles in 22 Hornet but are still available on the used market. However you can't beat the 77/22 in either model.
Browning uses to chamber their A-Bolt in .22 Hornet. I don't know if they still market a Hornet rifle or not but might be worth a look-at least for one of the originals.
