I just acquired a new iPhone and would like to put a ballistics calculator on it. Being the cheap SOB that I am, I would of course like a free one! Can any of you recommend one? Something that can be downloaded as an app. Also, tell me what you like about it as well as what it may not do. I'd like to hear both sides.
This is primarily for long range shooting, 300-1000 yards in a variety of calibers.
Thanks....

Ballistic is a great app. You can choose between a bunch of factory ammo to choose a projectile and input your own velocity data.

Jerkface and I are on the same page.

I have tried a bunch of the free apps, but none measure up to Ballistic. Yeah, its $13 but honestly, there is no other iPhone-based app that offers as much versatility. In fact, I would even recommend the advanced version with the HUD and upgraded wind settings for a total of $20.

Ballistic is updated about once a month or two with new projectile data as well as any new factory loads.

Of course, what good are all these features if they don't work, right? I have used the app for 30-06, .223Rem and 7mmRM with great success to 600 yards. It also has TONS of .22lr data which I have found to be very helpful when getting a buddy's 50yd rifle to 200+ :D

The app's interface is also very nice, and you can export the results via email so you can print them out on your computer.

Absolutely worth every penny, I have not regretted the purchase one bit!

Here's a link to the website so you can see more of what is has to offer: http://ballistic.zdziarski.com/

Note: I am a broke college student (computer science). I'm close to my dollars and wouldn't recommend this program unless I new it was effective. I have been using this app since 2011.

Thanks for the review Next G. I'll give it a look.

Good luck in college too.

I wasn't looking for another ballistic app, but when I get home I'm loading the Pro version for iPad. Thanks guys.

You people find the most interesting ways for me to part ways with my money. :)

I've used the Nosler app on Android, but I haven't tried it on iPhone yet. It has a lot of features for a free app.

Moxie, that Winchester app only has their ammo on it. Fine if you're using their ammo or want to make a quick estimate, but it's too limited for most people who plan on actually shooting from the calculator.

i've been using shooter for several years and i find the data is spot on to at least 1200 yards.

it is critical that you get the following correct:
height over bore
litz g7 bc
density altitude
velocity

if you do those, you will get results.

I use the Strelock app. They make a version for I Phones and I Pads that is compatible with Android also, so data can be shared.

One of the other things that I appreciate is the extensive reticle library.

I used iSnipe for a long time on iOS and liked it, and when I recently switched to an Android I tried Strelok and like it.
