I was out at our local range the other day. I ran into my Father-in-Law he was out there shooting his Savage 22cal rifle and trying to sight in his scope. I was on the pistol range when he came over and said he was having problems sighting the scope he said it keeps shooting to the right. So I went over to the Rifle range and had no problem with the sights after a few rounds. He is about 70 and is not in the best of health and I think that is where the problem lies. So I figure with Father's day coming up next week that a sling mounted universal Bipod would help him out. My Wife always gets him some crappy shirt or something like that and I figure get him something he will use. To get back to the topic I am looking for a reasonably priced sling mount Bipod adjustable 6" to 9" will work as he shoots from a bench. I see lots of them out there but looking for some input on wether there is much difference between brands and price.

Thanks

The ATI lightweight bipod is quite good for its price of $30 or so and is extremely light compared to other options. I have two that I'm happy with. There's also a decent aluminum bipod imported from China and sold by CDNN and others in about the same price range - I have one of those on a .22 rimfire (a Savage Mark II, actually). Between the two I would choose the ATI. Either will be fine for a .22, neither would stand up to recoil from a heavy recoiling caliber (.300 WM and up).

To further muddy the waters I am not sure if his gun has the sling option on it or not. I just looked at a old Marlin 22 rifle I have sitting here and it doesn't have a sling bolt. So should I be looking for a barrel mountable one instead.

A barrel mount will generally screw up barrel harmonics affecting both point of impact and accuracy (group size). I avoid them like the plague. A swivel stud costs a buck or two and is easy to install.
