I'm looking for a cheap red dot optic from my M&P 15-22. I don't really want to spend over about 50 bucks for it. Any suggestions?

You want cheap, I got cheap. Bought a Simmons 30mm and the turret popped off first time out, using a Ruger Ranch .223. I replaced it with a BSA 30mm, came to find out both Simmons and BSA were bought by another company, Burris, I think. Haven't used the BSA but bought both of these on Ebay for less than $25 each not including postage. The BSA seems to be solid and works fine, has adjustable brightness, no magnification, just a red dot.

Had a recent time of grief with a cheap red dot. Bought a Center Point with multi reticles. Cute little device. It would not hold zero for squat! I mean rounds ALL OVER THE PAPER at 25 yds! It stunk! Later investigation indicated that if one is looking at red dots for a low price, all you will have is something that will come apart like a cheap suit in a rain storm! The "bargin" red dots are not worth the time, money, and effort to get one. Do yourself a big favor and avoid the lower priced models and go for something that is of substantial quality. I wish I had!

On a personal note, I gave up on the red dot thing completly and went with some good iron sights with a green fiberoptic front sight. That, with a quick release form my 1.25-4x little scope, fills all the bills I had.

Good luck finding a low cost red dot for your weapon. I think you'll save yourself a lot of frustration by buying a quality piece of optics rather than trying to save money.

Okey doke, stepping down off the soapbox and will await the comments from those that have WAY more time invested in the red dot stuff to give you the exact make and models that are RELIABLE! We have some folks here that are way ahead of the game and will provied you with the correct one for you.

One of my sons has a cheap Simmons mounted on a Ruger Mini-14. After thousands of rounds, the scope is still functioning perfectly.

Cheap Red Dot?

I got a Vector Optics Vortex Stinger red/green dot on ebay for $60. Many rounds of 9mm and still works great and for a .22 it should last awhile.

I finally got my red dot. I spent a little more than my original limit, but I feel I got a good deal. I ended up with a Bushnell Trophy 1x28mm red/green dot. Cabela's had it on sale for $80. Going to mount it tonight and try to get to the range to zero sometime this week.

Just bought a reflex/ holographic sight for my .30-06. Paid $43 on sale from $60. Works good so far, just got done sighting it in at 100 yds. Also, Millet red dot's are a good way to go, they can usually handle rough recoil.

my millet multi-dot crapped out after about 8 months and 200 rds though an AR. The reticle selector came loose and my dot started bouncing around. I discovered this ehen I destroyed my chronograph. Talk about bad timing. I've replaced it with a bushnell tr-25 on an m1 carbine. so far so good. Millet is bushnell these days. at least bushnell is handling the warranty.

Hey, I got one I'll throw out there. A USED Millet. A new one will go for about $100, which isn't bad considering I paid about that for mine in '98. And in case you wondered, it still works fine. Just like new in fact. They are (or were at least) very well made red dots for the price. They aren't fast, they are 1" tubes, but they are nice and bright with a small dot and they work great on my 10/22.

The Millet is much better than the cheap stuff, but not quite as nice as the good stuff. It is an appropriately priced middle grade optic.

The Millet looks a lot like the one OpticsPlanet showed. I agree, I couldn't in good faith recommend anything cheaper either. I wouldn't recommend the Millet if it weren't for the fact I've had it so long and it has never had issue one.
