New member here. Found this place doing some research on knives, decided to ask on the gun front.

Looking for a fun to shoot pistol. 9mm full frame. Taking suggestions and opinions on a few guns.

Like the looks of these so far.
Taurus pt92 Stainless
CZ 75's, Mainly SP-01
Runners up
Glock 17 (or 17L )
Herstal FNP
Baby Eagle

Just wanting to know more about these, or any pistols that are a good buy.

Full size? Fun to shoot? 9mm?

This should draw the slavering hordes of Browning Hi-Power fans from the woodwork. (I'm in that slavering horde, too, although I am currently Hi-Power-Less.)

Right now you can get HK P7s for . . . still somewhat reasonably . . . as West German police trade-ins. I got one, and finally understand the HK mystique. An evolutionary dead end, but oh my, what a design.

My comments about the guns you listed (and they're MY COMMENTS, and applicable to ME, and are not necessarily any kind of Universal Truth---just sayin')?

The CZ75 I want to love, but the sad fact is that the full size version has a trigger that is hard for me to reach in double action. Sigh. I can do it, but it's not something I've been willing to do yet.

The G17---hard to go wrong with the Premier Papa Poly-Popper, assuming it fits your hands. If you're new to autopistols, you'll probably think the Glock feels just fine. If your hand has been trained to fit the very prevalent "1911 paradigm", a G17 is going to feel . . . kind of off to you. (Or it does to me.) Otherwise, big, soft, durable, accurate, you can tinker with it or leave it alone and it ought to work fine for you.

I have played with but not shot the FNP and Baby Eagle. Both seem like quality handguns.

Oddly enough, one of my very favorite pistols of all time is the Taurus 92. I loved the double action pull and it was, once more (like the G17) a big, light, soft shooting 9mm. I have had good luck with Taurus automatics and revolvers, although I know a lot of people are down on them. And it seems to me that even Taurus bashers generally make an exception for the 92.

There are a ton of very decent choices out there, find one that fits your hand and then check to make sure it isn't a stinker, and go forth and do great things.

I say again, a ton of very decent choices out there.

Well I got a budget too. Don't want to spend a whole lot. Maybe less than $600 preferably less.

Just seeing what people that own the guns like.

Well, the Taurus is a good gun to buy used. They can be had not much more than $300, and sometimes less. I have owed 2, and they have been great. They have a lifetime warranty to any owner.

This guy may want to sell.

Here is mine, but I think it has sold.

I like the Taurus warranty. Might try to find one used.

Search "Taurus Warranty"

I am not knocking Taurus. If that is your reason to purchase a Taurus do a lil research.

That said I have owned a few reliable Tauri.

Me.....I have recently been turned to the dark side of Glocks. I am first to admit that I am a "fanboy"

Glocks are the AK-47 of the pistol world. They are ugly, but, they go bang every time. Not as accurate as a 1911, but for out of the box "bang for the buck" you cant go wrong.

Leaning Very Heavily towards a CZ, mostly the SP-01.

Or I might get a Kel-Tec PF-9 for practicing before I get my ccw.

have a PT92 9mm and a baby eagle in 40 and 45.
imo i like the baby eagles, never shot the 9 mm in one but the other 2 are great, they fit and feel really good in the hand, another great gun is an XD I ALSO have 2 of them. again not in a 9mm. the keltec is also a good little gun but it is a hand full with full charge ammo.

(bigger is better) my .02

If pennies are going to restrict you and you want a CZ form then the EAA/Tanfoglio range might be worth looking at.

This from someone who loves (in a purely platonic way) his SP-01

Don't forget about the Sig Sauer P226 or a P229. A little more expensive than $600 but definitely worth it.

The best gun for the money right now in 9mm is he FNP-9. Runs about $400 shipped to your FFL. You will not find a better pistol for the money in 9mm. It us a $500+ pistol selling for less. Come with 3 mags.

The next best deal is the Sig Pro Sp2022 which is selling for $459 plus shipping. Come with 3 mags and is an all German gun with a great finish. Ifalon which is better than the US nitron. It is one of the best DA triggers Sig has to offer.

If you have a little more the BHP is a winner but they are hard to find even used for under $600.

I think you also should think about which action you want. DA/SA, DAO Striker like a Glock, or a SA only like the BHP.

The 75B give you a lot of gun but they are climbing in price. It is hard to get out the door for less than $500 which is bumping it out of the best value for the money category IMHO. They also have a long trigger reach.

Take the CZ nods with a grain of salt. Every CZ pistol I've seen has had horrible fit and finish. Also stay away from taurus.

Get the glock 17

Every CZ pistol I've seen has had horrible fit and finish.

Interesting. My two CZs and the CZ Kadet Kit all have flawlessly uniform finish, the 97B I bought used three years ago is especially good, since it is ten years old and I bought it three years ago. Looks new.

And they all have a very tight fit, no slop or wobble at all.

I do like Glock more and more though, and I would get a Glock 26/27 over a keltec

I got a blued CZ 75B about 2 1/2 months ago in 9mmx19
for an economical range gun - I also shoot a 1911 and a revolver
in.45 ACP as well. I like the DA option, with the choice of
Condition One carry with the thumb safety on the CZ 75B. The
slide design is interesting in that the rails are from the
inside like a Sig 210 full length serrated rib with three dot
sights excellent ergos for the backstrap. Excellent fit and
finish as well for a service pisto & lthe price.

Yeah and I may have just handle a bad batch, I dunno. I really love the looks of the CZ's and they really do have great ergos. I just noticed some fit issues. I think if you got your hands on a CZ that had great fit and finish, it's a winner in my book.

If you're looking for an inexpensive, high quality, fairly compact 9mm, then you can't go wrong with a Sig Sauer P6. They can be had for $300 or so and are a steal at that price. They're German police trade-ins and are in excellent shape. I just bought one from AIM surplus and it has some finish wear and had some shooting residue that cleaned up in no time. Some people might not like the low capacity of the single-stack magazines (8 rounds) and that magazines are pricy (around $50) but neither of those bother you, then buy one. You will never find a better deal on a Sig Sauer.
