....a permit to carry! Yes, and in many other states as well. Find a handgun that you are comfortable shooting and meets your requirements and then purchase it. Wheelgun or auto, all fit a specific niche for each individual.

It is a tak driver for the size and the snub nose makes for easy concealment. You are right about the 357, I will take that into consideration George.

The .38 spl J-frame should be more than adequit for self defense, at least in 99.99% of the self defense scenario's that I can imagine.

if you dont want to spend a lot of money on a gun, a makarov is affordable and easily carried. ammo is harder to find that .38 or 9mm but affordable as well.

go to the gun show / shop and see what you like and how it feels in your hand , then go for it !!!!!!!!!!

if you're going to get a revolver an internal hammer would be cool. thats what I plan on carrying when i turn 21 in 2 years. a .357 with a 2" or so bbl and an internal hammer.

Howabout the Ruger SP101 in .357 magnum with the 2.25" barrel? Some folks think it's too chunky but it's the same size as the Colt Detective Special. Many a cop and private citizen has carried the Colt DS as a Backup gun/concealed carry for years. Plus with the .357 you get some versatility.

Lightweight for summer. I like this Taurus 85, .38Spl.+P, 3" barrel.

Or a pocket concealable Taurus 85 Ultra Lite, .38Spl.+P,

I find a Ruger GP-100, 3" or a SW 686, 2 1/2" fits nicely on my hip during the colder months, and I don't find the weight to be a problem. I realize they are both .357's, however, shoot .38Spl's now and when your ready to move up to a .357 you won't need to buy a new revolver...

Good Luck

Plenty of options out there for CCW.

Nothing wrong with a .38/.357 either.

Your post leaves alot open. What is your experience with handguns? Own any? What method of carry are you looking at? IWB, OWB, or shoulder rig?

Several of us are getting together in Yuma on Saturday the 5th of Nov. If you are looking to try some different pistols to ge a good idea of what you want then take a little road trip and join us.

I own a 9mm, Ruger p89. I love it, but it is a bit bulky for concealing. I am leaning toward a revolver simply due to thier reliability. Snub noses are great for concealment, so I am most likely going that route.

I was looking at the Taurus 605 and the Ultra Lite as well. Both are good and within my price range (About $300).

I am unsure of the method of carry. I thought about an ankle holster, but I am not sure. What do ya reccomend?

Why not a Bulldog in .44 spcl? Big, dumb, slow bullets would be a better choice than .357 from a snubbie IMHO.

I have heard this before, but I do not understand why. Is the barrel length too short to get the right amount of accuracy with a snub 357? Does it reduce the knowck down power?

Unless you're handloading with pure nitroglycerin, TATP, etc., you're going to have a concealable flame thrower with mediocre ballistics.

What do you think about the p90 by Ruger? It is large, but it is also a 45. A buddy of mine had one and said that it locked up alot, but that Ruger has since resolved the problem. Does anyone know anything about this?

For that matter, what semi autos would you reccomend for concealment?

mtnbkr called me out.

Hey Jackal, the decent caliber thing. Just kidding. We get into a lot of caliber flames now and again, and I was wondering about the "decent" description.

Me = .38 S&W 642 -- buy one, love it.

Pocket holster, plenty of power. Price is not bad.
