Hey guys - I was just coming here to see if anyone had any suggestions on basically a reference text on shotguns. I've got a book that I love to browse through just called "Bolt Action Rifles" by Frank De Haas that goes through and details information about (as the name implies), bolt action rifles.

If anyone is familiar with that book, I'm kinda looking for a similar type of text, but mostly describing shotguns. My primary interest is in older pump shotguns, but anything that includes other types is good.

Thanks!

Shotgunning: The Art and the Science by Bob Brister is a classic if you want to know the basics of how and why. Very good reference. Look into the stickies at the top of the page aslo.

Another classic of how to, these are the books I started out reading back in the day. If you just want o know about kinds of shotguns and not how to shoot them then there are other reference books.

Frank DeHaas wrote a similar style book on single shot rifles but I don't know of any such text on shotguns that describe repeating shotguns (pumps and autos) in the same way. The late Michael McIntosh wrote a fine book entitled The Gun Review that treated the subject much the same way as DeHaas did but it only dealt with double shotguns.

Along with that good reference book... I think we have a fine reference right here -look for "links to old THR threads" at the top of this board.... You'll find in-depth discussion on shotgun topics by Dave McCracken - wish I'd met him... Every time I read one of them I learn a thing or two....
