Help adjusting Rem 721 trigger

I have a Rem 721 that has a 5lb trigger. I did a search on how to adjust it and only really came up with this. There is a book titled Bolt Action Rifles by Frank De Haas that has a description on how to adjust the Model 721 trigger. Does anyone have this book?, and if so, is there someway you could please get me that information.

I've just recently gone through the same thing myself. Don't remember the exact site offhand but if you do a search online for remington 700 trigger adjustments you should come up with the same one I did. I remember it was well written and had drawings making everything clearer for the first time around.

Thanks for the links. Is the Rem 721 trigger exactly the same as the 700?

Close enough.

I don't recall exactly, but it will have the three screws adjusting sear engagement, overtravel, and spring tension.

Just Be Sure and do the the safety checks AFTER you are done screwing around with everything else.

Thanks guys for your help. I was able to get the trigger to just a little over 3 lbs with no overtravel. However, there is now a large amount of creep I cant get out. Any ideas?

bunk,they are made to be adjusted. but it involves all three screws and they must be adjusted one at a time in order as in de-hass,s book, and tested as to assure safety and a dab of loctite applyied to keep them from moving. eastbank.

Alright, I think I got it all worked out. Trigger weight is 3.2lbs. No overtravel, and creep is almost non existent. I have performed all safety checks and everything is ok. The only thing I want to do now is give the trigger a good cleaning. I dont want to use oils, what does everyone recommend to clean this with?

I would not bother with a 721 or a 722. They are not a well made gun what with all of the cheap parts and brazed on bolt sections and handle.

Also their triggers have discharged when not wanted. Also they do not have an adequate safety design or mfg.

Just put the rifle aside and get a better one. Rugers, Winchesters, Kimbers, CZ etc.
