I just got a Taurus PT92AR that comes with an accesory rail built into the frame. I'm looking for a holster to fit this gun. I'm currently using a generic nylon pancake holster that seems to fit okay, hard to reholster when it collapses. Anyhow, I had a PT92 awhile back that did not have the rail and I had a Fobus holster for it, but this new gun does not fit. Has anyone heard of a good alternative to the nylon pancake for this pistol? The gun shop that I got it from said that no one is making holsters for them. Has Beretta every put rails on their 92s that there might be a holster for them that would work with the Taurus?

Thanks for any help.

Maybe a holster for a Beretta Vertec?

Try before you buy though. And don't get a holster that is hand boned. 99% chance that it will not work - it will be too tight.

Something from Bianchi or Galco for the Vertec might work. I once had a Bianchi holster for a Beretta 92 and was able (with a little work) to get it to fit my Taurus PT99. Even if you can't loosen it up, all is not lost. I recently fitted a 640-1 Galco Paddle to a CIA 650. All I had to do was immerse the holster in water for about 30 seconds then put the gun in it, form it, and let dry (the CIA was stainless). With a blued gun, put it in a heavy ziploc bag and holster it. Make sure the holster is completely dry before using.

Hope this helps.

Of course, if you can locate a custom holstermaker nearby, you can simply tell him what you want and leave the gun with him for a couple of weeks. You'll get exactly what you want for only a marginal increase over the cost of a Galco holster.

Thanks for the lead. I don't know of any custom holster makers nearby. Probably are, just don't know.

Thanks.

Why buy a gun with the silly rail if you aren't going to mount something on the rail? Which of course makes the holster issue even more problematic -- why most folks think the rails are silly ideas.

In some cases the purchaser doesn't have a choice. If you want a 3rd Generation S&W pistol, you're going to end up getting a rail. No choice in the matter. Glocks, XD's, and now Sigs (among others) are coming standard with rails. Glock and XD rails are relatively subtle, but the Sig rails will necessitate either new holster molds or a more loose-fitting holster. Taurus seems to be offering the rails as a choice, but eventually they'll take the choice away and you're stuck. I'm sure holstermakers don't appreciate having to buy new models b/c of the newest rage.

Taurus seems to be offering the rails as a choice,

I was looking at the PT100 for a full sized 40 S&W and noted the PT100 in stainless was $420 best price I could find. PT100AR stainless was $360.

Perhaps the market is speaking as to which is more "desirable".

I ended up getting a CZ75B in .40 S&W for $370 since I've a lot of Taurus guns
and didn't have any CZ guns -- boy had I been missing out on some great guns at great prices!

If "normal" people don't buy the silly things, they'll likely fade from the scene once the "mall nija" market is saturated, unless the politicos forcing their ideas on the agencies find them essential because of the latest "group think" tactical fad.

I'm also looking for a holster for a Taurus PT92 with a light rail. Does G-Code or Sidearmor make one for these models? If not, I don't mind spending a couple bucks more for a Milt Sparks.

Sadly, Sidearmor does not make holsters for Taurus guns. Neither does G-code. If you like Kydex/Plastic, you might want to give Blade-Tech a try. They made a holster for my SW99 compact when they first came out. It wasn't a stock item, they did it custom. E-mail them about it.

I wonder if the Talon Tactical holsters for the Beretta 92-SD will fit the Taurus? The SD's length is .1 inch smaller so it might work.

Hmmm, have gotten 4 holsters that were all hand boned and all fit perfectly and weren't too tight at all. Guess I got lucky. ;)

Why not just contact one of the noteable custom holster makers, Rosen, Hume, etc...

The problems with the custom makers is that even they don't have the molds to make those holsters in. I called Milt Sparks if they made one, and even they didn't have it. I did call RF holsters about their Alessi holsters and they did make one for the 92 AR.

The reason I said to stay away from hand boned is that the original poster is looking for a holster that will fit a relatively new frame design that has significant dimensional differences from the standard model. He's reduced to looking at holsters in the "also fits" category. I have both a Beretta 92FS and a Taurus PT92AF (or whatever they called it). My Taurus is without rails. My Beretta will fit custom holsters made for my Taurus and vice versa (although the Taurus in Beretta holster usually has to be worked in a bit). Hand boning the holster is going to make for an even tighter fit.

As far as I know, there isnt a true "pattern" available yet...That means that the holster maker has to get the actual weapon to use as a pattern...Even though we get a large discount, this can be cost prohibitive for most designs because the demand for holsters just isnt there...

Some gun companies will offer real weapons as "loaners" for the holster makers for a short time...Usually for 30-60 days and then you can buy them at a drastically reduced price or return them...Taurus as far as I know does not do this...Others offer patterns that are real wepaons that have been made imoperable(Naa, and KT both do this)...

I would give one of the big three a call...They usually have the resources available for most new designs..

Kydex?? Call Blade-Tech...They are good people

my .02 peso's
