I am looking for an inexpensive flintlock rifle kit that I coud assemble. Anyone know a good source?

What's 'inexpensive'?

I recommend the Lyman Great Plains Rifle. $411 at Midsouth Shooter's Supply. Is that 'inexpensive'?

I've got the Lyman's Great Plains in Flintlock, and am still working on it, great firearm, once I get er done I'm sure. However the Traditions makes a flintlock with a 28" barrel for under $400.00, I believe that's as cheap as you're going to find, but I believe it's got a birch stock, which is alright if you don't mind not having a traditional walnut stock.

Thanks guys, I was looking at the Lyman, but unfortunately it is a little out of price range currently. Guess I need to save for it!

there is no such thing as an inexpensive kit any more since CVA stopped making kits . it is actually cheaper to buy one completed than it is to buy a kit these days.

you might be able to get a kit at cabelas or bass pro shops.
but those will still be in the $250.00 OR HIGHER price range.

you could always build one from scratch which will still cost the minimum of 100. dollars.

I have plans for Jaco Kentucky and Jaco Hawken if you might interested.

track of the wolf also sells plans for just about any style of flinter or capper you would want to build.

St8Line, Where in the world can you build a flintlock for right at $100. The barrel will cost well over $100, not to mention the stock, the lock, and the rest of the furniture. I know as I built one about 15 years ago, thru Dixie.

He's talking about a scratch build using materials you don't have to buy: scrap wood and metal laying around the barn. Using tools paid for years ago so they have no remaining depreciation value, and your time at no pay.

you can make every part for a jaco rifle or pistol from raw materials. it is percussion lock model due to a flint lock is a little more difficult to make.
I can buy 15/16" ATF Octagonal barrels from Numrich for 54.00 and less
I make my own locks from metal that i find in the scrap bin at local boiler and/or sheet metal shops and can get half stock blanks for 25 bucks. the hardware and a dowel for a ramrod can be bought at ace
I have a thread in the black powder forum where I am building a single barrel shotgun.
had to put it on hold due to back problems.

I have a Cabin Creek Colonial Virginia Rifle that I started way back in 2003 but didnt get very far with. I bought as a project as I recuperated from major surgery but didnt get very far. I went all out when I bought it: Grade 3 select curly maple stock, I think I even paid extra for a Green Mountain barrel. Has a Davis large Siler lock and double set trigger. Also has a matching piece of raw curly maple wood for the patch box.

All told, I paid over a grand for it.

I will never finish it. Would anyone here maybe want to look at pictures to see if they would want to make me an offer?
