I'd like to hear some recommendations for a belt for carry of a 1911-5". Currently I am using a carhartt 1 1/2" with a galco avenger holster and it seems to be breaking down rather quickly. I also have a filson double layered belt 1 1/4" but it is not very comfortable.Do any of you use the wilderness belts or a belt with a metal liner?
thanks

I'd say take a look at Rafter S www.raftersgunleather.com]. I've been using a double thickness 1-1/2" cowhide to carry various steel or stainless 1911s for a couple of years now and it seems to be holding up well. I've just bought an 1-1/4" sharkskin which sees to handle a commander size 1911 well. I am fond of their holsters also. Two kinds IWB and OWB but multitudinous choices in leathers and color. Give them a check

two dogs, I use the Uncle Mike's instructor belt. It's like a wilderness belt but at a much lower price. I tried to get you a link but Midway's site is really slow tonight. You can do a search on their site for "instructor belt" and they will come up.

This belt has not broken down at all. It is the best gun belt I have ever used.

Edited because I got the link http://www.midwayusa.com/eproductpage.exe/showproduct?saleitemid=828711

Second on the Rafter S. It just edges out the Belt Man/Gunner's Alley belt IMO.

I have a Filson double layered belt, but it's not a gun belt and isn't really meant to be. Get a quality belt from Alessi, Sparks, Rafters, Graham, etc. if you're carrying a 1911. They will support the gun better and will be more comfortable as well. At least my Alessi certainly is.

I got one of these for Christmas. At the risk of sounding really dumb, I can't for the life of me figure out the preferred method of looping thru the buckle... Any pointers?

I have a 3 stitch, 1.75" Instructors belt from The Wilderness and couldn't be happier with it. They also offer it in a 5 stitch version.
If you want one that blends in a little more and looks less "tactical", take a look at the 1.5" in tan.

I'd suggest thebeltman, too. Great customer service and great belts. I talked with him on the phone a couple times and he was extremely helpful every time, and never once did I talk to an answering machine.

+1 Their belts are superb. Don't let the price fool ya, they'll keep up with any $100 belt. Worn mine daily for two years and looks almost new. Don't care for their holsters though.

I use the wilderness CSM as an everyday belt.

Stiff enough to handle a much heavier load than I hang on it, and everything stays where it is supposed to.

I'm about to order a couple belts from Rafters. I like them and everything I hear about them is good.

I go to the Redwing boot dealer in my town. Never oredered one. I like to try stuff before I buy it so I don't order many clothes, belts or holsters unless I've looked at or handles a sample esprcially with some of the return policies out there.

I'm considering belts from either The Belt Man, Rafter, or Andrews Leather. I've got an Andrews holster and mag pouch that I like very much, but I'm having a hard time deciding on a belt. My current belt is a 1.5" Filson ordinary belt, much better than typical flimsy department store stuff, but not quite rigid enough for a 5" 1911.

For the Rafter, I don't see any picturs of dark belts (not black) in cowhide, so I'm curious how they turn out. The belt man belts look really good. My brother in law just ordered an Andrews in Brown, I'm waiting to see how that turns out.

I just got my belt from rafters, it is awsome, a little stiff and difficult to manipulate, but I'm sure it'll get more comfortable as I wear it, haven't tried it with a holster yet, still waiting on that. I love this belt.

+1 for the wilderness instructor belt. i've had a 1.5 inch 5 stich coyote tan model for about a month now and it has exceeded my expectations. worth every penny.
