Looking for a new ccw, opinions

I'm digging the SW640 and the Kahr MK40.

I have one gun shop and a gander mtn close by, so I was looking for a general direction.

The lgs has a theory that they must be priced higher than gander mtn to be competitive, so I usually make the trip up to Dallas to peruse at Cabela's.

The reason for stainless is for corrosion. Literally, I can carry my blued snubnose all day during summer, take it off at night and wake up the next morning covered in surface rust.

I don't mind wiping it down at night, but I'm usually beat when I finally come in for a shower and don't always remember to wipe it down with oil.

Polymer, stainless, aluminum, titanium, just something that I won't have to break down and clean if I forget to wipe it down for a day or two.

I'm going to do some calling around this week to try and find somebody that has the MK40(or a 9mm/.45 version) in stock as well as the 640 pro.

Thanks

The O.P. in the 1st post specifically mentioned the need to pocket carry. The guns mentioned in the last three posts are very heavy to be carried in most pockets. They are also a bit bulky. When you've got a big bump and heavy lump in your pocket it practically screams gun to anyone who sees you. It also frequently results in not carrying the gun because it is uncomfortable for pocket carry.

The OP did not mention his wardrobe when specifying the pocket carry requirement. Every gun I mentioned can be pocket carried. An S&W 625 may also be carried in a pocket. All the OP needs to do is dress around the gun. Overalls hide an N-Frame just fine in a pocket. The OP should remember to wear a shirt, but that is optional with overalls. SmartCarry also works well with overalls and the owner of the business carries a 1911 under his overalls.

You are right, he did not mention his wardrobe. I have been suggesting pistols that are comfortable for carry in most pockets. Your suggestion strikes me as being choose a pistol and then finding a few pockets it can comfortably be carried in, "All the OP needs to do is dress around the gun". Personally I don't dress around my guns, what I carry depends upon how I dress. If I was limited to only owning one gun it would be a smaller one I can carry comfortably in almost all clothes. The OP appears to favoring your line of reasoning so I think I am done here.

There are these things called jokes...unless the OP wears overalls frequently.

Seriously, I dress around the gun and/or change the gun. It depends upon the circumstances, not the least of which is what is not in the laundry at the time. As others pointed out--the OP's requirements are not possible, though the Springfield XDs comes the closest. The best answer is a multi-gun and multi-caliber battery of larger guns in 45 ACP and smaller guns in 9x19mm and 380 Auto.

I was not perturbed, but I did not perceive the jocularity of your post, perhaps I was distracted by rushing to make two posts before running to an appointment. Mea culpa. You are of course right that an N-frame can be concealed in coveralls. It is amazing what you can conceal under the right circumstances. I once surprised the hellouta a guy when I pulled a Combat Commander out of a bathing suit that was partially covered with a T-shirt. Of course if the circumstances had been more routine I would have been very uncomfortable attempting to conceal a Combat Commander. When you are young, have broad shoulders and a narrow waist, are wearing a tight bathing suit and a baggy T-shirt, it is possible if uncomfortable and inadvisable.

I do wear overalls quite often actually.

I carry a P89 in the overall with no adverse effects.

But I'm specifically looking for something for summer wear, shorts and t shirt.

I really like the looks of the Kahr .40, and that's probably going to end up being the new ccw.

Buyer beware.

Three out of four Kahrs I have owned were not functional (I only buy known functional Kahrs from friends and the last PM9 has been great).

If you are going to go with a small single stack gun, then I recommend 9x19mm for controllability that encourages practice. There are many options available today.

My next CCW will be a Kahr P45. It's two ounces lighter, almost an inch shorter, and 1/4" thinner than my current Ruger SR9C that I've been carrying. If you want even smaller, the PM45 is another option, but I'm in the "no pinky finger hanging off the end of the grip" club.
