Preferably a hi-cap .45 acp that has 10 round mags available. Most importantly, it must be HEAVY!

I can't shoot a Glock to save my life. 1911's don't work for some reason. The best I can do is with my P90 Ruger--better than a Sig P220, though I don't know how.

I really dislike light pistols, since I am recoil sensitive, but I love the performance of the .45.

Opinions?

Thanks.

Try Ruger's P345. Great ergonomics, better than the other p-series pistols. Shoots great, though it does not have 10+ capacity since it's a single stack. But it is an all around great gun, in .45.

Eastwood44mag:

1) I have seen many people reduce their recoil sensitivity by wearing a pair of foam ear plugs under their headphones. I shoot this way. I can barely even hear the muzzle blast.

2) Buy the grip-strengthening tools that are sold in the firearms stores. They do work. I have one for each hand.

3) Change out the flat main house spring, to an arched style.

4) Checkered front strap is an absolute must!!! Good checkering will help control recoil by distributing the forces over all surfaces.

5) Muzzle breaks and portings reduce flip and some felt recoil but turn the blast up so high that the first time you pull the trigger in doors you'll look around to see who slapped you! (Exaggeration of course, but it's severe).

6) 1911s with heavy, cones-shaped barrels keep the recoil light. Also, check one with the a rail. More steel equals more resistance to the recoil.

Parting thought: .45 ACPs recoil. It's a lot of lead at a reasonable velocity, and that equals recoil. Reduce either factor and you reduce effectiveness.

Hope this is of some help,

+1 Nomad 2nd ......H&K USP has a double recoil spring for less recoil. Stay away from hot rounds like +p that also might help.

I have the Sig P220 ST

It is ALL stainless and weighs 43 oz.'s.:what:
It is heavy and pure perfction.;)
8+1 rds. is more than enough....unless you're expecting a horde of Zombies to rush you !
If you're tight on cash.....then get the Ruger.
The Ruger P345 has a recoil reducing system bullt into the pistol.
Get the decock model only in stainless steel for $435.00.;)

My P90 shoots fine, especially with the Hogue grips on it, but it lacks a rail and hi-cap possibility. After all, I can't go about shooting zombies in the dark with 8 rounds and no light, right?

.

There are some large and heavy wheelguns available in .45.

Just and idea.

You might have a problem finding 10 rd mags for them, tho.

Go with the USP .45, if you must have a 10+ round .45. If you decide capacity doesn't matter, try the SIG 220 ST.
