Another vote for the SIG P238. With 900+ rounds through it, my P238 is completely reliable with all ammo.
Soft recoil
Easy to rack slide
Good sights
Good trigger (considering the gun's purpose)
Good grip (with 7-round mag)
Just-right heft
Edit: Easy take-down & reassembly, too

BSA- I have seen those purses and they do look like they could have some potential, although I can't say so with any authority because i don't carry a purse (or Indiana Jones satchel). What I will say is that I've never known any woman to own just 1 purse. YMMV.

Colt Defender in 9mm

Metro Arms ic now making a small 1911 type 380. It will be sold under the old Now New new owners of name Eagle Imports , Bersa, Metro Arms, Grand Power and now New well made Llama's

My wife is very recoil sensitive, and the only gun she would carry was the Ruger SR22, until she shot the Glock 42. Now that's all she wants to shoot, and I feel better with her having a .380 than a .22 (but .22 is still better than nothing.)

Before you settle on a 1911-style, give this a look-see:

A co-worker just bought his wife a Kimber Micro (Colt Mustang clone) for Valentine's Day. He was comparing the Kimber to the Sig 938; the Kimber's trigger was much better.
She really likes it. For a mini-1911, it is pretty sweet.

I had an EMP when they came out. It is a nice pistol, but at 24 oz, weighs the same as a 3" 1911 in .45acp,and the EMP commands a premium price.
