I'm looking at some 1892 levers, Rossi Pumas to be precise. I've kinda fallen for the 20" carbine model in .44mag, but I am wondering if the accuracy of the carbine is much worse than the rifle model in 24"?

I know the carbine sights probably aren't as good but for this situation we can count them as equal because nomatter which I get the factory sights will be replaced with a peep sight with suitable front sight post. I am thinking the barrel bands might interfere accuracy wise but I see Paco Kelly has some tips on how to make those merely a cosmetic thing.

I read about someone with his 24" Rossi rifle and he shot metal plates at 175 yards without any problems, he had a tang sight too, like the one I plan to get, that's the kind of shooting and accuracy I am after. I've fallen for the carbine look and I generally like shorter rifles, but not if it will be a lot worse accuracy wise than a rifle.

I'm not sure what you plan to do with the rifle.

However, IMO the best attribute of the 1892 action is that a carbine based on it is a wonderful, quick-handling, light gun.

I shoot paper targets at 100 yards offhand with a .44 revolver and iron sights. My shots are not all 10s, but they're all on paper.:) Either configuration of 1892 should hit plates at 175 without any trouble.

The EMF Co Rossi made 92 rifles have better sights, buckhorn rear & brass bead front. That's the 92 rifle I would go with if you can find one. The stainless is my favorite. They are accurate lever rifles no matter which barrel length you choose.

Don't have access to EMF Rossis here, just regular ones, but I don't mind what sights it'll come with since I will replace them with custom ones for me. The stainless ones do have a certain appeal but I think I prefer the blued ones anyway.

I have the 20" octagonal barrel in .45 Colt. Nice gun. I'm going to upgrade sights in the future. I bought it for a 50-75 yd gun, I have lots of scoped long guns.

I reload, and have a variety of loads from deer killers to plinkers. Very fun gun to shoot.

M92 carbine

I have a 16" barrel in357/38 with big loop and found it to be a great 100 yard gun. Never tried farther but i think a tang would come in handy for anything over 100 yards. Can't say anything bad ...think the new ones are coming from italy but mine came from brazil. Mine was 450.00 nib. Happy hunting

I have a 20" octagonal barrel version in 357 mag from Navy Arms. It's also made by Rossi, but has the nicer walnut stock and no ugly safety. It's a fun gun for under 100 yards, but a rifle caliber gun with scope is going to give you better results at longer distances. Bullet drop and just being able to see the target will become an issue.
