Looking for advice for a LVPO

Just a quick update. I got my PA compact 3X prism in. I really got it to keep the spot warm on my rifle while my ACOG was off at Trijicon getting looked at.

The little compact 3X is impressive, especially for the price. What I don't like about it? The made in China sticker!! It's obviously not going to be as bomb proof as the ACOG. Honestly, I'm not even sure of what it's made of. I'm gonna guess some 6000 series aluminum, but which, I have no idea. Ditto for the mount. When I saw the lines and angles on the mount, it immediately stuck me as being made by and in the same place as the Swampfox mounts, which I'm not wild about. As for the glass quality, it is very good, but again... not ACOG good.

What I do like about it ... the reticle is seriously nice. Very useful and intuitive. The reticle illumination is bright. Not nuclear bright, but certainly "daylight" bright. More than bright enough. I haven't had to crank it up to full power yet, although I've only had it out to the outdoor range. The glass quality is more than good enough. The field of view is also very good, especially if you were going to compare it to the TA33 3X. The PA has twice or 3X the field of view, but doesn't have the eye relief of the TA33, but beats the TA31 hands down in that category.

Honestly, I got the email from Trijicon that my TA31 is on its way back to me and I'm not as excited about that as I should be. I got the ACOG because I wanted at least one truly bomb proof do it all optic, rather than an LPVO. Now, I'm kinda thinking that the ACOG might sit in the safe for a while because I really like the PA 3X more in terms of use. I guess I'll see Friday when the ACOG lands.

Oh, back on track .... if you don't NEED illumination, maybe consider the SWFA SS 2.5-10x32. It's outward appearance is nothing special. 1" tube, no illumination, but the glass is good, not Razor good, but pretty impressive for the price, it's kinda short at under 11" long and LIGHT at around 10oz. There was a time when the Super Sniper scopes were used and talked about a lot, but they just aren't as tacticool now. If I recall, the SS, or this particular one, is made in Japan. If you're considering one of the MANY options in the same price range that are made in China, whose only advantage is illumination (that isn't daylight bright), I'd go with the SS for sure. That little scope with an offset or top mounted red dot would be sweet.

Mine has nearly arms length, "usable" eye relief. Far more than any ACOG I've been issued. Maybe check again?
