Betcha can guess
In preface, for the last five years or so, I've been carrying my Glock23 in a Predator SO2. It is comfortable, concealable and tuckable (although I never used it that way). Well, the front attachment clip finally cracked, and a couple of months after sending it in to Predator for their lifetime warranty service (and many unanswered calls and letters later), I've concluded that Predator is out of business and I'm now in the market for a new Kydex IWB holster.

I'm certain that I want to carry IWB. I've got a decent Galco pancake holster for this gun, so I've got the OWB angle covered already. I like the way the SO2 seperated the attachment points...it was a very stable holster, and I think attachment points right on the holster would add a "thickness" detracting from concealability. I'm not opposed to leather, but I have to admit that especially for a IWB holster, Kydex just appeals to me. I have to admit that I carry too much weight around my waist on my own, and the additional 1/4 inch that a leather IWB holster might add would probably not make me happy. Plus, for much of the year here in the Phoenix area, leather next to the skin looks to me as though I'd often find myself sweating into the holster. As I said, I like the seperated attachment points of the SO2, but I'm willing to consider other options.

FWIW, I'm 5'9" and 200 pounds or so, which makes me on the high side of "overweight", if you believe those charts floating around.

Here are a couple I've found on searching the web for these holsters.

  • Comp-Tac Kydex C-T.A.C. The adjustable nature of this holster looks interesting, but I'd be a bit concerned about the long term durability of the leather connections between the holster and the attachment points. Their C-clip looks to be an effective, yet discreet attachment method. Anyone with experience with this holster?

  • The Sidearmor IWB holster with their IWB Belt Hook. I think I'd like the modular nature of this holster...it is not just a piece of plastic baked in an oven and then wrapped around a gun mold. They offer changeable attachment methods and the company is an Arizona company, which for me is a plus. [The downside here is that I've written them about this set-up, and they aren't responding. I'm a bit concerned that I'd be travelling down the same path I've been down already.] I'm not sure that the Belt Hook thingi would have me carrying the gun higher than I think I'd like. Anyone?

  • If necessary, I'm willing to go with something simpler (which puts me back to the "baked", single-attachment style), like the Bearclaw IWB. One of my local gunshops is carrying a brand (which I can't remember now) which offers something similar.

OK. So what say you? I'm not necessarily looking for the cheapest holster, but at some point, price would become an issue. I'd prefer a kydex holster, but I'm open to leather too. I'm all ears on this thing.

Have a look at Tucker Leather. Tey have a kydex/leather hybrid that nice.

Going by your post the Comp-tac is up your alley. If possible try one first. My hight and weight is similar to you and the C-tac didn't work for me, but we are not the same so it might work for you.

I use this daily. IMO the leather bits are worry-free. I suppose they could eventually dry out and crack, but they'd be easy to replace- either make your own or make use of Comp-Tac's *excellent* customer service.

I originally used the c-clips. They were, mmmmm...... not so good. I dunno why (and other mfg's use similar clips) but the top of the 'C' doesn't hook down at all, and is therefore prone to popping off your belt. Inconvenient to say the least. Easy to fix though, simply cut some sort of block the same width and thickness as your belt (I used masonite) and then use gentle heat to form the top lip over. They worked well once I did that.

Nonetheless.... I eventually swapped to the v-clips for stealthyness. They've their own issues, but I like them better. They're a little hard on your pants (the velcro goes all around the clip part, so it rubs against your waistband) and it can be a chore getting the velcro mounted to your belt permanently, but for pure batman invisibility.... very good!

I find the holster comfortable. I find the retention good.

I am also a bit on the heavy side. I have carried a Sidearmor with the belt hooks for the past 3 years or so.

Great holster and works well for me summer and winter. Went by the shop when I was passing through a year and a half ago on a Sunday. The owner came out and gave me a tour of the shop. I was very impressed. They are a small mom and pop outfit that do alot of bussiness which means the responce to email is a little slow.

Any other uestions just ask. :)
