Looking for advice please

Hello,

I am just starting to get into hand guns and wanted some feed back. I am mainly interested in a pistol for target shooting that is at a reasonable price. I have large hands, so I want a full frame and was thinking of 9mms due to the price of ammo.

What I want is a very sturdy construction frame that is very reliable and shoots well. Easy to strip and clean is a plus. Since I am just diving into the market I would consider anything under $800.

My first choice has been the Jericho 941/BE, then a CZ75B, B92FS. There is not a range where I can test any of them near me. Thank you for your input.

I can recommend CZ75s highly, owning a PCR Compact myself. The SP-01 has a heavier frame than the standard CZ75, which will reduce the already light recoil even further. And there is a CZ-manufactured .22 conversion unit available.

Start with a .22. There are plenty of good target pistols for under $300 and they are much cheaper than 9mm to shoot.

Of your three choices I can recommend the CZ-75. The others are good as well, no really wrong choice of these three. Just like the CZ better

Welcome....You can purchase a nice variety of 9mm pistols in that price range. I like your choices and either one of those would be fine...However, if I were you & you mentioned you can't test fire, I would head out to a place like Sportsman's Warehouse or some other outlet and actually feel for balance, the grip, grip angle, ease of reach to trigger-mag release, etc. with all their 9mm's. IMHO... Good luck and let us know what you choose with pics...

gunub... everything starts with the question, "What am I buying the gun for?"... And you answered that... TARGETING!!
Like most shooters, you'll eventually want to move on/up to a larger gun for carry, home-protection, or just for 'more punch'... that means a 9mm, .40, .357, etc... and that also means, much more $$ for ammo!!
As I see it, you now have two basic directions to go...

(1) Buy a good .22 target gun (ie. Ruger Mark III or a Browning Buck... both about $300, and both are great, durable, reliable .22 shoots you'll have forever)!! then a 9mm later.... Or

(2) get the best of both worlds, buy a CZ 75B (9mm) with a .22 Kadet Conversion Kit (slide)... you can shoot a great gun for cheap targeting with the Kadet slide, then convert to it's normal 9mm mode... alittle more upfront money, but you'll have both guns, and one of the best 9mm's out there!

I can highly recomend the CZ, and that also gives you the option of using the Kadet .22 conversion kit. A little of 2 guns for the price of one.

I would second the .22 recommendation, excellent choice for a beginning target pistol. You can find many affordable excellent quality .22's. Easy to shoot, ammo is cheap so you can hit that range as long & often as you want.
For a 9mm I strongly recommend a Stoeger Cougar if you care about premier quality. You'll love the Cougar at half the price. One of Beretta's finest designs ever. What the PX Storm is based on. If you like traditional styling and steel over high tech looking plastic Cougar is a far superior gun than the Storm and that IS saying alot. Extra $400 buys alot of ammo and range time.
For a real SD carry gun you will find none better than a XD.45 compact. Rock solid reliable, hits whatever you point it at easy to carry and conceal eats everything you feed it. But can break the bank at the range.

CZ 75B - * why get a copy"
I got one 3+ months ago approx. 800 rds through it
with no Failure to Feed (FTF) or Failure to Extract (FTE)
I think the workmanship is great for a service pistol, and the
slide rials inside the frame like the famed for it"s accuracy
the Sig 210 I think contributes to the 75B's accuracy - and it
Is very accurate.
SImple disassembly/assembly, just move the slide back about a
third of an inch and line up the vertical marks on
slide & frame - push on the slide rellease/lock lever pin
( use a flat piece of wood or plastic so as to not mar the
finish ( mine's "blued" but really it's a deep black ) pop it
out - remove slide by moving it forward - remove barrel and
spring, - clean bore, and wipe down the innards, there's
no bushing to complicate things, and just re-assemble
put the slide back on and line up the marks, pop the pin of the
slide rel./lock back in and good to go.

If you have especially large hands the SP-01 has a longer frame
that contains a 19 rd magazine, vs the standard 75B's 16 rd mags.

For your budget, you can get a 9MM LUger & a .22 LR

Good choice on the SP-01. Im very happy with mine, ran another 50rds through it this afternoon. Its very accurate even with my(probly less than) average shooting ability.

Its hard to take a good pic of a black gun isnt it? Need tons of lighting.
