I am looking for a suggestion as to a good reliable (like drag thru mud, wet concrete , just all around can be beat up...etc and not a jammer) but cheap AK47? What are some good manufacturers and what is a decent price for one? I would like to keep the wood look. I don't know much about them.

Also wondering if there is a stock that can be used as a pistol then folded out to a regular stock that is actually comfortable, or am I better off to keep the original stock or try to find one that already has the folding stock?

Also one last thing a good drum?

Does anyone know what kind of AK's the guys in the north hollywood shootout used, were they original full auto or modified, who made them?

You can find cheap AKs all over, maybe even try gunbroker?

A decent, cheap, easy to add and functional sidefolder is a romanian type--but it won't be as comfortable (for most) as a standard wood stock.

You want a chinese drum--they're easier to load. Both types are reliable.

The dead guys in n hollywood, I think, used chinese Mak-90s that were illegally modified to full auto (again, with most of the information available through the media, there's going to be a lot of inaccuracies...). Some reports say they were 223 variants, but I don't have hard data on that.

Thanks for the info, I will keep a look out what kind of price is a good deal? $320 ish??

I usually search gunbroker as a barometer on prices, but that's close (for a romanian wasr type). I've seen them a touch under 300, but depends on if it's got a slant brake, etc.

I haven't seen any good prices on AK's on gunbroker. classicarms.us has AK-47 type rifles in stock.

As far as a good compact folding stock goes, the sidefolders are the best and most compact. The East German style right side-folding stock like copesdist.com has is very nice. It firs onto a regular AK trunion and can be interchanged with a fixed stock as needed, which is a plus.

As for the guns themselves, If you dont mind maybe having to do a little work on it or send it back to century to get something fixed as a possibility you can get one of the $319 WASR's that have the bayonet lugs, threaded barells and are basicly as close to an AKM as you can get especially for that price.
