I have been contemplating the Arsenal instead of the rest..
The Arsenal and FIME Group rifles are still the nicest Saiga conversions that I've seen.

I have a FIME SGL21-76 and SGL31-94. Both are excellent rifles. I also have an Arsenal SLR-106FR which is probably the nicest 5.56x45mm AKM I've encountered.

You will pay slightly more for a top-tier rifle, but IMHO the price tag is worth it for a high value rifle like that.

Mine is a Romy-G done right. It was built years ago with a early 1986 kit on a NDS-3 receiver. The barrel is chrome lined as is the chamber. When it came out of the bag it looked like it had never seen a trunnion much less been shot. It slugged out to spec and the chamber poured out fantastic. Front sight is straight, bolt is Russian and it's full of TAPCO parts that work great!

It shoots any ammo fed. But wakes up when fed quality brass ammo. It's a hard hitter out to 200 yards with 123gn A-Max bullets @ 2700 fps with Win brass. It is my SHTF carbine. While my new Colt is impressive for a over hyped .22. The RG is solid and my bug out SHTF carbine. It does not know the word malfunction. It is the single most impressive gun I have ever owned for the dollar spent.

I'm a pretty big fan of the Saiga. No idea how its actually pronounced, but you are supposed to "anihilate" the packaging after you get it, and thats pretty darn cool...

A couple of the things that I like about the Saiga are the hand-guard extends to the end of the gas tube, so you can play around a little more with your hand placement, and the modification to get it into the "correct" configuration definitely makes you more familiar with the ins and outs of the gun. Accuracy is also pretty good. I know some people say it has nothing on an AR, but I can easily hit clay pigeons at 100 yards with the factory iron sights.

Just remember: With AK's, the difference in price does not buy you as much as it would with other classes of rifles. A $499 AK and a $1200 AK are both going to show rougher craftsmanship compared to other rifle types, just one will not be as bad as the other. A cheap AK will do everything an expensive one will, it will just not have the significant cool factor a true Rusky mil spec (minus the happy switch) will have.

Bottom line is: Whether you spend $499 or $1200, the gun is going to function the same, be about equal in accuracy, use the same ammunition, accept the same mags and go bang when you need it to. I've had nice AK's (Polytech, Waffen Werks) and ugly AK's (Romanian's) and aside from a few sharp edges which are easy to stone smooth, I could never tell the difference between them while firing. Oh, and buy a pair of thin gloves. No matter the type of AK, your hands will take a beating.:D

True dat "your hands will take a beating"
I don't post many pictures on line of my ARs , but I have posted NONE for my AKs. Figure that one out you patriots! :)
I whittled down the 10 AKs I have owned to two preban SA 85M FEGs that have been converted with the like new AMD63 parts kits that were available in the 80s until 93 or so.When the uppers were changed out everthing was hand fitted. They both have Ultimak rails and Aimpoint M2 reddots that are kinda co witnessed (I like a "upper third" dot) and have a G&G picrail bolted onto the right side of the AMD63 hand guard. With a 4moa dot I can make a good head sized shot to 100 yards rested.Malfunction is truly NOT in the vocabulary! I still have a saved stash of 1400 rounds of brass cased South African ammo from the 80s that hold about 8" at 200 yards - for sure! They certainly are the last guns to go at this stage ! :)
