Looking foe first 9mm luger to double as home defense and EDC. Glock 19,px4 compact,sd9.,xdsc9. What you think? What's you favoriare. I like all of them!

I'm not a glock guy but I do have an XD9 subcompact. It is a great shooting gun. I've put about 200 rounds through it at the range and am amazed by it's accuracy. I alternate it with my Kimber Crimson Ultra Carry II and Para C7.45.

I'm not familiar with the SD9, but I've owned all of the rest. I'm a small guy and find all of them to be uncomfortable to carry due to their girth, especially for IWB carry. If hi capacity is something that you just have to have, then just pick the one that feels the best to you.

I settled on a Kahr K9. Slim, small and shoots very nicely. Just keep in mind that not all handguns are for everyone. For example, I can't shoot the Beretta to save my life, but I can rock with the Glock. The smart thing to do would be to go to a range and rent some/all of the them and see what you like. As far as reliability goes, they should all be about on par with each other, save the Smith. I don't know about that one.

Can't go wrong with a Glock 19, unless you just don't like it. I don't love them, but I still want one.

The Ruger SR9c is a great choice. Crisp, glock style trigger, Smaller than the G19 for concealed carry, but a comfortable, reliable, and accurate shooter for range sessions. Plus, with the 17round mag and grip spacer, and the light rail, you've got full- size capability for nightstand duty.

Mine rides on my hip during the day and beside my bed at night.

CZ is worth looking at. Most are nice shooters. I hear great thinks about the M
&P's but have yet to shoot one.

I have a CZ and will not hesitate to recommend them.

I also recently shot an M&P and, despite being more of a steel & hammer kind of guy, I was pretty impressed with it. Even shooting .40 is was quite pleasant, so I'm sure the 9mm is a nice shooter.

Ruger pros:
Slimmer and not as blocky as the Glock.
One of the best triggers on any polymer striker-fired pistol.
Manual safety (if one likes a MS).
Steel sights.

Ruger cons:
No long term track record yet.
Ugly loaded-chamber-indicator (but very effective).
Magazine safety (but it is easily removed).

Glock pros:
A well established track record for reliability and robustness.
Extremely easy to repair and work on without the need of a gunsmith.
Lot of after-market accessories and parts.

Glock cons:
Thick chunky ergos.
Plastic sights.
Bare lead ammo is not recommended by Glock.

Good luck,
Easyg

Beretta PX4 would be my choice of those. Glock 19 would be a close second, with the XDs not even in the running. I know they're good guns, but they're just ugly to me.

Glocks were always handsome guns to my eye. They're minimalist. XDs are minimalist, but with stuff tacked on. Doesn't work any more.

The PX4 is loads more comfortable, and easier to shoot accurately in single action. They just feel better made too. Glocks just sound and feel squeaky and scrapy. I know they're not, but it just sets my teeth on edge a bit.

The Ruger SR9c is rapidly acquiring the reputation as an excellent compact 9mm with full-size capabilities with the full capacity magazine. Ergonomic and easy to shoot with a good trigger. It also has a thumb safety unlike the Glock. That is a big deal to me.

You wouldn't go wrong with any of those guns. I've got an XD40-Subcompact, and my friend has the same gun in 9mm as her CCW gun.

I came from the cheap seats, so I bought a Sigma SW9VE. The sights were crooked. While it was gone I got a Taurus PT-111, a 9mm with 1 3.5in barrel, intending it to be my carry. Since then I've bought a Taurus 24/7 which shoots better, a S&W 2in snubbie that's harder to shoot, and a XD-9 I have no use for.
The PT-111 is still my carry. Good grip, big capacity, reliable.

Browning Hi Power
CZ-75B or 75D PCR
HK P7 PSP
Sig P228/P229
Beretta 92FS

Just about any modern semi auto of reputable make should perform quite well. The best advice I can give you is to pick the one with the Manual of arms that you prefer, and the one that fits you the best.

That's a Glock for me, Sig for others, S&W for some, etc...

Good luck!

You do realize the Glock isn't cocked until you pull the trigger, right?

I am not a Glock expert by any stretch but isn't a Glock striker/firing pin under tension once a round is chambered?
