I would like to have some night sights installed on my Glock 23 and was quoted what seemed to me to be a fairly ridiculous price by the gun shop where I usually shop ($100 labor).

I'd like to find someone local who could, hopefully, do it as a "while you wait" thing, especially if it's any distance from me.

It doesn't appear to me that it would be all that difficult, but I don't have the proper tools. Am I wrong to think that $100 is out of line? Is there anyone you would recommend in this area (far western suburbs of Chicago)?

Ideally, a sight pusher tool would be best.

But, you can change sights on a Glock with nothing more then a nut-driver for the front, and a brass punch and hammer for the rear.
(Always drive out rear sight left to right. Drive in new sight right to left.)

New rear sights may need a little fitting, and you do that with a fine-cut file by taking a frog-hair off the bottom of the dovetail and trying them until you get a good tight (but not too tight) fit.
You don't want to be beating on a night-sight as you can break a Tritium vial if you smack them hard enough

But IMO, Charging $100 bucks for the job is highway robbery!

Thanks. I think I understand the concept of fitting new sights, but my level of finesse is more suited to tools like claw hammers and reciprocating saws. I can see only disaster awaiting me if I were to take a brass punch to one of my guns.

I have considered buying a sight pusher. Though they're around $100, I've currently got a couple of guns that are prime candidates for new sights. That, and the fact that I'd have it available for future use, has caused me to mull over the idea of just going ahead and getting the proper tool.

dont know how far west you wanted to go

Mister, I live in Lockport, and have a sight pusher. The only problem I see is that after the sights are installed, the sight pusher should be used to zero your gun. If you have a couple more guns you could use it on, by all means....buy one. I have two for specific guns (1911 and Sig) but I use the universal one the most, as it will work on most pistols that have parallel sides to thier slide. http://www.midwayusa.com/viewProduct/?productNumber=163458
