I'm considering using PowerPistol for .45 Colt loads for use in a lever rifle. I'm NOT looking for maximum power, just moderate power from a clean, easy to use powder which might also be suitable for my .357, .45 acp, and light .44 mag. loads.

I'll probably be looking to load with about 9 to 10 gr. behind a 250 gr. Gold Dot or Hornady XTP bullet for a 16" lever rifle velocity of about 1100 fps.

Before I buy some I was wondering if anyone could tell me:

1) Is this a relatively "clean" powder?

2) Does it meter evenly and easily?

3) Any issues or downside to it?

The other powder I'm considering is 2400, which I understand is slower and capable of generating greater power if I want it. But I wasn't sure which powder will be cleaner and easier to work with. Since I'm not looking for heavy hunting power and I have a variety of pistols to reload for, it seemed that I might try a somewhat faster powder like PowerPistol.

Thanks so much.

Power Pistol is a fine grained powder that meters VERY nicely in a quality measure. It burns VERY cleanly at higher pressures in 45 acp so your 45 Colt loads should be clean. The only downside, if it is even a downside, is flash. Power Pistol makes a bright white muzzle flash from handguns. I'm pretty sure the rifle would have no flash at all though. Power Pistol makes some pretty darn stout 357's, full on top end 45 acp's and 9mm's, and is a great midrange powder for 44 mag.

I burn a lot of Power Pistol and like it very much. I would recommend you get some and try it, I think you will like it too.

Flash is the only negative thing I've heard about Power Pistol. It tested higher than any other power for flash. Cant remember who did the testing but it was posted here. So if you're looking for "Flash Candy" it's THE go-to powder.

I have never used Power Pistol in .45 Colt, but I have used it quite a bit in autoloading pistols.
It immediately became my faviorite powder for 9mm.

I personally don't care about how "clean" a powder is, but I was surprised to find my expended cases lying on the ground and appeared to have just come out of the tumbler.
And, yes, it meters great.

I load .40 and .45ACP with it. Haven't quite gotten around to experimenting with it for my .357 and .44 loads.

I concur with the other posters:
Meters very well and consistantly.
Very clean. (although it does put a white residue all over the front of my CZ97b)
Nice muzzle flash...you can still see it in daylight..so it's quite a light show!

I am really hoping I like it in the 357 and 44. I'll have to try it in my .45 Colt as well.

I load Power Pistol, (I hate that name!), in 9mm, .38 Super, 9x23, 357 SIG, 357 SIG loaded long, .40 S&W, 10mm, and .45 ACP.

I have tried it in .38 Special, and .357 magnum. It is at its best in the short auto pistol cartridges.

I see no reason why it would not work in a .45 Colt rifle. I do believe that there might be better alternatives.

It meters quite well, and except for the high flash, I have no issues with Power Pistol, (other than the name!).
