Welcome to THR benz55

4.2 Grs. N310 and Berry's 230 Gr. RN at 1.260 shoots pretty good. Avg 701 FPS 4" Barrel & 663 in a 3" - 70 Deg.

4.4 Grs. N310 and Berry's 200 Gr. HP at 1.200 shoots real good. Avg 820 FPS 5" Barrel. - ? Deg.

4.6 Grs. N310 and Berry's 185 Gr. HBRN at 1.260 shoots pretty good. Avg. 773 FPS 5" Barrel. - ? Deg.

4.6 Grs. N310 and Berry's 185 Gr. SWC at 1.190 shoots pretty good. Avg. 802 FPS 4" Barrel & 772 in a 3" - 70 Deg.

N310 is very fast burning and pressure goes up quickly. These loads are MAX.

They don't even show loads with N310 and the .45 in Vihtavouri's 95 second edition load book. They don't show any with 200 Gr. bullets in their online data. They give 4.2 as max with 230 Gr. Jktd. and 4.6 as Max with 185 Gr. Jktd. in their online data.

Reduce 2 to 3 tenths to start and work up.

6.3 Grs. N320 and Berry's 185 Gr. SWC at 1.190 shoots real well. Avg 871 FPS 4" Barrel.

5.4 Grs. N320 and Berry's 200 Gr. HP at 1.200 shoots pretty well. Avg 735 FPS 4" Barrel.

5.4 Grs. N320 and Hornady's 200 Gr. SWC at 1.260 shoots real well. Avg 702 FPS 4" Barrel.

5.2 Grs. N320 and Zero's 230 Gr. JHP at 1.245 shoots real well. Avg 721 FPS 4" Barrel.

I was planning on bumping these up to 6.4, 5.6, 5.6, & 5.4, but have not tried it yet. This would definitly be max.

Reduce these at least 10% to start as they are at or close to max by online data. They are not max by Vihtavuori's 95 second edition load book.

N320 was very accurate from light loads all the way to where I stopped for the time being. Other cheaper powders work very well also.

Thanks for the Extensive Data

This is a great starting point.
I have some of the 185gr Berrys RNHB to try as well.
It looks like you had better results with N320 than N310
I have both powders available to test.
Would you know if the same loading data should be used for plated/jacketed heads?
Thanks for the Info Walkalong

N310 can be very accurate, but it seemed more finicky with plated bullets than N320 in this app. :)

Using loads in 1911

I am using these loads in a 1911 Colt Gold Cup Trophy,
for Bullseye and plinking loads.
I'm going to try the 320 first as I am using plated and Swaged
heads exclusively. I was concerned with the burning rate
on the N310 being almost the fastest powder out there,
But then read the Wilson uses it for their test loads and
it is supposedly the USMC team load powder as well.
wonder why?

I have a few thousand berrys 230gr RN and a smaller qty of
185gr RNHB that I picked up on the Cheap as well as a
1,500 lasercast 230gr RN
Any experience with Lasercast or Berry's Products?

The Berry's 230 Gr bullet can be very accurate. I like them. Zip shot them into one hole for me, for one. Not a bad bullet to have a few K of. :)

The best bet is to stick with one bullet and try 3 or 4 powders with it. If you try 3 or 4 bullets and 3 or 4 powders it just makes things harder.

Try the N320, AA# 2, AA# 5, W231, WST, WSF, Zip, or Tightgroup. See, to many possibles already. :scrutiny:

N320, Zip, W231, or AA# 2 is almost guaranteed to shoot with this bullet. :)

AA# 5, WSF for more pop.
