Honestly, Its hard to beat a Rock Island armory for $330. I prefer it over my Kimbers and SA's. No failures, just accurate, great shooting. I smile every time I take it to the range. They were so popular at the shop, that the dealer is raising them up to $380. Jerkoff. The Taurus is great to, alot of value, but HARD to find.

Only a .45?

You need something with a little more power for those mosquitoes!!:D

I went to High School in the mid 80's over in Delta Junction, about 100 miles away from you. Although I'm in Florida, I still miss Alaska.

Although not exactly inexpensive, a Springfield Loaded or Kimber Custom II would problably be the best way to go. It's better to spend a bit more now and get all the bells and whistles than trying to get it done later. USGI models are nice, but unless you are a purist at heart you'll probably want some upgrades later, which can be a bit costly.

Used guns are a great buy, just make sure it's a factory gun and not some "Frankenstein" build.

Thanks for all the input!

I had the AMT Hardballer floating around in my head, but i know little to nothing about them (not even price range). Somewhere i heard they were crap... is this true?

Maybe i suck up to gramps and get one of his Colt MKIV's for little or nothing... I know theyre in great shape because i cleaned them for him! He says he has a Stainless one, but we have yet to find it :uhoh:

the used part sounds good, I am weary of pawn shops because they either raise the price on a good condition or lower the price on one that was fired more than a pot-head out of high school... Or used more than a rental car...

Every now and then the news paper has a few, but I saw a Colt 1911 in there for about $850. A tad steep for my budget
