I went to the couple of local gun stores today, as I am in the market for a 1911 style pistol to add to my collect. Price is of a major issue, so I am limited as to what I can look at (550.00 is about as high as I can go).

I have eliminated a few options already for a couple of different reasons that I will not get into, but I have eliminated the AutoOrdinance and Rock Island.

The guns that I am down to at this point are the following:

1911-A1 Stainless Steel Springfield Armory (499.99)
1911-A1 Blued Springfield Armory (459.99)
Kimber BP Ten 5" Blued (539.99)
Dan Wesson Pointman Dave Pruitt (549.99)

(Crazy outside change or blowing the load for the GSR 1911 and trading in a few toys, but that is a different story...)

Please let me know about your thoughts..... I like the features of the Pointman Dave Pruitt, but I need a little persuasion to push me in that direction.... However, I like the SA Stainless as well...

Also, how are the prices I have listed?

I can only relate to you my experiences with Springfield thus far...at those prices, I'd guess you're looking at a Milspec. Everything I've heard/read/seen says the Milspecs are screwed together fairly well, although if you shop hard enough, you could find a NRM Colt for not much more.

I've got a blued full size Springer "Loaded" that's been persnickety out the box. I've had extractor troubles since day one. It's going back to Springfield soon, so we'll see how it goes from there. Reviews on the Milspecs, however, have been mostly favorable.

Denmark I paid $650.00 for my D Pruitt. I would buy it again at $650.00 nevermind the $549.00 price. Don't see them for 2004. I don't know if DW is going to keep making this model. Has a ramped barrel instead of the frame and barrel style. At $549.00 I would change all the inners at Ed Brown Forged Steel parts and you will likely come out with one hell of a great pistol for cheap money. I changed the two piece guide rod to a one piece, the two piece rod loosened when shot. I changed the Disconnector, Hammer Strut, I put on a Amibi Safety, (I'm a lefty) an 18lb recoil spring, arched main spring housing. I changed the extractor, most of this was personnal preference only, I only changed the strutt because my strutt was too short and chewed up, the rest was my personal choice only. A good feed ramp polishing and shaping and I use Power Mags.

Do you guys with the Dave Pruitt models actually like the chevrons? I like the gun and I think it is a good deal, but I could not get past the look.:barf: I think they felt bad as well. Just wondering.

Denmark, I recently picked up a Kimber Custom Series I for $580, there are other ones out there. Get one if you can. You won't regret spending a few extra bucks for a Kimber or Springfield loaded model. Good luck.

Save up another $150.00 and buy the S&W 1911. After all, it was Guns and Ammo's Gun of the Year for 2003.

I own one, and I've only got great things to say about it.

Oh yeah, and the external extractor and full rod are nice too.

But, that's only if you can stomach the wait and bite the extra cost.

I'd save for it...

Whats wrong with something different? Look at the snakeskin, S' curves and so on...........hell, having some of them put on a gun cost more than the entire D. Pruitt gun does.

Its all just a matter of taste..................or what have you.

Shoot well.
