Looking for new Range Day Bag

So I have been using a cheapy Walmart Range bag for years. Its honestly not completely terrible, but is also not quite large enough as I invest in more guns and ammunition.

To me, an ideal rage day bag should be able to carry larger targets without trashing or bending them, carry a universal gun cleaning kit just in case, carry at least 2 handguns in cases, and carry at least a few hundred rounds of each ammunition you plan on using.

I know that some people are fine with rolling up their targets but sometimes I visit an indoor range that uses two clips to hold the top of the target and the rest of it just hangs down. Not an issue if you are stapling all for corners to a backboard, but they tend to bunch up once hung at the indoor range.

Plus I just need more real estate period. I often find that I am forced to leave some things I would rather have for an ideal rage day.

So what are your favorite range day bags?

I have a 5.11 bag I bought over two decades ago, still looks almost new. Midway sells a cheaper copy.

I have the smaller Midway range bag, it works well. Not quite as robust as the 5.11, but good.

Cool, Ill look into it

I appreciate this conversation. I'm using a cheapo Walmart that my wife got me for Christmas. It has held up well, and is rather small, but I normally like a compact bag since I'm shooting on the back of the farm. I am toying with the idea to get something a bit bigger for the days that I take it all with me back there, or for when I might go to a friends land and take more than normal.

I've also used a small canvas backpack if I plan to walk in the back for a bit of plinking. I've considered finding a good backpack for my medium sized range bag needs.

I'm a huge fan of the Midway range bags. I have multiple ones in different colors.
(Usually they have 1 color on sale at any given time, so that's what color I get lol). Mag packs, lots of pockets, padding, and nice stitching. Worth a look if your looking for a larger bag.

Thanks! Another one to look into!

I like tool bags these days, especially for heavy stuff:

I know it's cheesy. Not cool at all but I use discarded batt powered tool bags the construction side leaves in job trailers. I collect Dewalt all sizes. Shooting crony bag. Ammo bag. Magazine bag . Hand gun bag. Tool bag. Just preasure wash and take them home.

Honestly not a bad idea, and its free lol 🤣

My favorite was in a garand collector magazine. One of those competitors had a baby stroller that held two rifles and bags like a softball mom would take

I use a DeWalt bag for little stuff, great for putting the ammo in instead of the range bag if you bring a lot of stuff that day.

I also have an old tool bag that is basically the same thing, use it the same way. Sometimes I pile them full of ear muffs to hand out for family.

My wife and I attended a pistol class out of state a couple weeks ago. I hauled 2,000 rounds of 9MM in a couple small Kobalt tool bags. They handled the weight well.

I took one large Midway bag as I decided to bring several guns and other gear (tool/cleaning kit, belts, holsters, eyes, ears, etc.). The gear and gun bag was big but not real heavy. The ammo bags were stout!

I’m a fan of a separate small strong bag for ammo…then a range bag makes more sense.
