Looking for non wood grips for my PA-63

I searched his site as well as his order form and all I can find is wood grips.

So does anyone else know of other examples of non wood, non thumb rest grips for a FEG PA-63? I am looking for new grips because I want to use my PA-63 as my secondary cc weapon in case something happens to my primary cc weapon.

I looked awhile back also....and ended up putting Marshcal's on both my FEG PA-63 and FEG AP7.65 . I have seen both guns with non-thumbrest grips, as some of the7.65's come in with non-thumbrest versions.
I have never personally used the "Vintage Gun Grips" brand reproduction grips as sold by Midway and directly from Vintage Gun Grips website. Some reports say they do not retain shape well.

As an interim for your CCW use, you could do what I did before changing the grips; I filled the back of the thumbrest with black epoxy, then just sanded the thumbrest off. Works like a charm and it doesn't look too bad either.

Why the hate for wood? is it color? finish? feel?

I say make them yourself out of wood, and stain them black, or use a bedliner material for extra grippage...
Edit... after looking at teh Marchalgrips link... I think the flat ash black checkered grips would be perfect.

Thanks Pockets, if I can't find anything else I'm going to give that a shot. Did you use any kind of protective spray after sanding it? I actually like the thumb rest, but for cc I would prefer flatter grips.

No hate. Lol, that would be really hard for a cabinetmaker. :D
I think those wood grips are beautiful and I could probably make some exquisite wood ones, but I would really like something with some grip to it. I love the rubber grips on my CZ SP-01. I know they make Pachmayr grips for the Walther PP, but even though the PA-63 is a PP clone unfortunately the grips are a little different. :(

If I can't find anything I think I'll use Pockets idea and perhaps put a Handall Jr. grip on it.

I went through the same thing back when I use to have a PA-63. The Handall Jr. is about the only thing available, besides the offerings from Marschalgrips.com. Marschal does have nice looking grips available without the thumbrest.

Maybe it might be good to order some of the grips w/out the thumbrest from Marschal, then place a handall jr. over the grips. However, getting the Handall jr. over the bottom part of the frame will be a small job in itself. :eek: Good luck in your decision. :)
 
While we are just tossing ideas left and right... take the grips off, and get some road-bike handlebar tape.. its padded and the leather is "grippy" especially when your hands are clammy under stress... :)

No protective spray. I just dyed some 5-minute epoxy black (but you can buy black epoxy). The black epoxy is what gets exposed after sanding off the thumb rest. Done carefully, it all blends together pretty well.
NOTE: My PA-63 now has nice Marschal wood grips on it, but my AP-7.65 still has the sanded-down stock grips.
I need to place another order with Marschal....grips for; Makarov, FEG AP7, Radom P-64, Cz82, and Cz70.
 
You know, I know you don't want wood, but here's what I'd recommend:

Marschal grips, checkered, in Walnut. That'll give you plenty of grip, and plenty of durability. Checkering will really give you what you're looking for. You can get a Hogue grip thingy that slips over the grips, as well, so if you really want rubber you can have it.
 
I've also done the same thing as Pockets. Just as an FYI, the finish of the sanded area will probably not match the rest of the grip. (Aside from the lack of checkering, I mean).

The handles aren't solid plastic. They are impregnated with fibers (fiberglass mesh?). YMMV, but at least on mine, the fibers were shallow enough to be encountered while removing the raised area surrounding the thumbrest. You can see a slight difference in finish/color/texture of the plastic at that point.

But so long as you're not entering it into a beauty pagent, you'll be fine.

Heck, I didn't even dye the epoxy. Mine has a JB Weld-gray "swoosh" on the grip, and it looks like it was made that way.
