Had a Rossi lever action in 38/357. Gave it to my son. Really want to find one again. Paid $250 at a gun show. What do they go for now, and where would I find one (other than at a gun show)?
EMF Company Rossi made 1892 rifles are the nicest of the Rossi 92 rifles. They have nicer sights, Buckhorn rear and brass bead front and a nicer stock and finish. You will pay a little more but you will get a nicer rifle. The case harden finish is nice or the stainless is nice also. With a good action job the Rossi rifles will be smooth as butter but you can have that done later on. Look on Guns America you can find some deals on the EMF and Puma rifles.
I bought a Rossi .357 levergun from my 1stsgt in 97'. I was impressed by the accuracy and handyness of it. The only problem was it had problems ejecting .38 brass.
I gave my sister a choise of three rifles: an Olymipic Car-15, Ruger 10/22, and the Rossi .357. She thought the Car was too military, and the 10/22 too light, but loved the Rossi and could shoot circles around me with it. I've been looking for another for awhile now myself. Of the three guns I've given her she always seems to pick a gun I wish I'd kept later on.
The older Rossi 92 rifles had some problems with cycling 38 special rounds. They have corrected that problem. I do action work on them and I hardly ever run into that problem with the newer rifles. The EMF 1892 Hartford rifles are nicer than the Legacy Sports Int Puma 92 rifles. I see a lot of both.
The 92 rifles feed best when you can cycle the action fast. With a good action job to smooth and light the action you are able to cycle the action faster, smoother and better.
I bought a 2 year old '92' LSI PUMA 38/357 20" Lever at the gun show in April for $380. Whoever owned it never cleaned the packing grease from it. The action was stiff. It may have been shot some, but looked new. I gave it a good cleaning, and worked the action several times while spraying it with solvent, and finally it loosened up. It's a dandy.
