Any thoughts on the quality of the Rossi 357 lever action rifles? I'm debating one, but am just not that familiar with Rossi.

Seems to be hit or miss. I have had bad luck with two Rossis, a ,357 lever gun (this was quite some time ago) that was just ROUGH and a youth combi gun (.22lr /.410 shotgun) that I bought for my kids last summer that was really poor quality, finish and fit. Other people seem to have had good luck with the lever guns.

My .357 Rossi was acceptable for the price I paid. I didn't expect an exquisite rifle and thus I was not disappointed. The factory sights on my were junk and have been replaced with aftermarket jobs that are close to the sights that are on the newer models. I've had some sporadic extraction issues with a wide range of .357 and .38 loads. Feeding has been reliable.

Best to check them out in person. They are hit and miss. Most issues can be smoothed out with a bit of minor work but things like over indexed barrels are annoying on a new rifle.

I've got a 20" round barrel and a 24" octagon barrel. They aren't fancy, but they ARE shooters. The little one took longer to break in, the big one was pretty good right out of the box. The bigger one is of more recent manufacture. (only 2 years newer than the other) I just got the big one this year.

I have one ,16" barrel.Eats everything I feed it. I did order a spring kit to slick it up a bit but then again I like to take all my stuff apart to see what makes it tick....

In addition to this thread I's suggest you run a Search on this forum for ".357 rossi lever" and read up the many past threads.

I've got one which was darn decent out of the box and which I've slicked up for Cowboy Action. I'm very happy with it and it's as accurate as any other rifle I've got... which means that it's more accurate than I can see and hold... :D

I bought a Rossi .357 carbine about a year ago... was one of the biggest wastes of $400 I've ever had the displeasure to buy. Action felt nice and smooth until ammo was actually introduced to it. Gritty, catchy, and stiff when in actual use.. a real knuckle buster. Wouldn't cycle .38 special, it would actually launch them out of the action if cycled briskly. Took me a couple minutes before I figured out why I was finding loaded .38s on the range floor, lol

.357 would stay in the gun, but the feed guides on either side of the receiver would do their best to rip the rim off. Ruined a lot of brass trying to break it in.

That was out of the nicest looking of the four gun lot my dealer got in....

Pissed me off a little more than it should have I think because at the time I had a Rossi .38 revolver that was fantastic. Still feel just a little bit burned, never going to risk one again.

My experience with a 16" stainless Rossi mirrors the post above.

There's a small cottage industry that's sprung up solely to make these passably functional. They're very much a U finish it kit gun.

I was under the impression that they have a lifetime warranty in the States?
Up here in Canada there is no support from Rossi.
