My old Marlin 925M is asking to be put on a new diet. So, I am looking for something else to feed it besides the old 40 grain Winchester ammo it has been chewing on for years.

Looked at some of the new Hornady 30 grain stuff online, but no one carries it locally.

What 22 mag ammo is out there that will make my Marlin feel like a spring chick again?

Was thinking about getting an HMR, but think I will just keep my mag and find some new ammo for it.

I shoot a Ruger 77/.22mag, and it really likes the Hornady stuff. I also shoot a bunch of .17HMR, and I can tell you for sure--its an accurate round--but won;t put critters down like the .22mag. does. They both have their place. Also on the .22mag ammo. I picked up a couple hundred rounds of PMC Preditor, in 40gr. jacketed hollow point, that has done pretty well. Good luck

Found some Hornady and CCI in stock at a small shop about an hour from the house this past weekend. Now, just getting time to try it all out............

My savage 22mag really likes the hornady stuff. I do as well. It will shoot under an inch even with the iffy stock trigger. Its also good because it dosent seem to penatrate a lot. It dumps all its energy in the target. Knocks down racoons with authority. I really want to try some different ammos as well, we just lack any good selection close to my house. Hope this helps, brian.

The red tipped hornady has a few light brown tips that look similar to the cci. Someone said they both come from the same place. Don't know if true or not.

Not a rifle, but my 9.5" Single Six really likes Winchester Supreme hollowpoints (the black box).

I've never had any great accuracy out of Winchester Super X or CCI FMJs.

I recently bought some sort of fancy Remington .22 mag, but haven't tried enough of it to have an opinion.

I've had great results with CCI but lately started using the Fiocchi stuff. It really does work well and I end up saving a buck and a half over the CCI too.

The new Hornady 30 gr fodder has made my Winchester 9422M feel like a new rifle. 100 yard shots are now a much safer bet than with the old 40 gr ammo. I've yet to hunt with the new WMR round (I own a 17HMR and love it), but intend to get it out into the field after varmint in the near future. I have a boat load of 40 gr WMR that I haven't shot. It will be my plinking ammo and the 30 gr will be my hunting ammo. It's a good position to be in. I have an old Rossi M59 in .22WMR. I just had an aperture sight set up on it this past winter and the 30 gr shows great promise for it as well. It's nice having some variety for the .22 magnums. They've been around for ever and have put a lot of meat in the pot over the years. I still prefer either a .22LR, or .22WMR when shooting for dinner. The 17HMR does too much damage in a lot of cases, but boy howdy does it do a number on varmint and vermin. It's nice having a rimfire that can take down small furry critters at 200 yards if need be.
