Looking for someone to show me bulletcasting in DFW

What do you hope to learn?

I'll be honest; I'm hesitant to invite a stranger who just joined the forum and posted no info about him/her-self to my home. But I'm glad to offer guidance and support via the safety of the internet.

Casting isn't that difficult. I bought some lead on eBay, a bottom-pour pot and mold from midway and gave it a whirl. Later I got a hotplate for $10 and a $3 heavy-duty small pot from Goodwill that would have worked just as well as the pot.

Hey Who,

It might be helpful if you clearly stated where you live. I may be behind the times, but if DFW is supposed to tell where you live, it went over my head. My hometown is shown in my profile, so if you live near Mechanicsburg, PA, I would be happy to add another member to our casting gang.

Best wishes,
Dave Wile

There's an excellent video on Youtube showing the casting process with a bottom pour and 2 hole lee mold. Anything else can be learned on here.

I can certainly understand that I'm new and don't have a full profile so some might have issue with that. Guess I'll try to find someone again later :\

Hey Who,

Now I see in your profile you are from the Dallas/Ft. Worth area, and that is a bit of a ways from Mechanicsburg, PA. If you were close by this area, I would be glad to have you join in on our casting sessions.

As another thought, there must be dozens of gun clubs near where you live, and I might suggest you visit the shooting ranges of the clubs looking for different folks using cast bullets. Chances are you will find a number of folks who live near you and would also welcome you to watch and learn some casting.

Some of the responses you received here were not so inviting, and you can find some folks are like that everywhere. However, I can assure you there are many more folks in the shooting and reloading community who will welcome your questions and share your friendship.

Best wishes,
Dave Wile

Dave & Who,

Text is nitorious for not easily conveying the correct tone; there is no animosity in what I wrote just a statement that at this time I am unable to show you but glad to answer questions. I should have added that you can PM me with questions.

The suggestion to ask people you already know at local clubs is a good one. What clubs / groups are you already active with?

Hey Daveandron,

Sorry, I guess I added 2+2 and came up with 5, but what can you expect from some old fool who did not even know DFW meant Dallas-Ft. Worth? Worse yet, I have been to the DFW area several times, and my brother lived in between in Arlington a good many years ago. What can I say? I'm old, and I beg your forgiveness.

JimKirk mentioned the CastBoolits forum for more information, and I might also suggest the special Cast Bullets section of the Handloading forum on The Firing Line as another forum source. However, I still think Who's original idea of finding one or more local people to observe and work with is a much better idea than simply reading stuff we say on the forums. Also, I would recommend the Lyman Cast Bullet manual; it is a wealth of information on casting bullets.

Best wishes,
Dave Wile
