OK, I posted many months ago about this and got a few tips. I couldn't find the post and thread so I needed to repost to see what's out there. I live in Lakeland and my wife has become pretty decent with a handgun. She's good at putting holes in paper, while standing still and firing 1 shot every 2-5 seconds. I've spent quite a few years in the military and have a few old friends who were Army SF who give some training on the proper use of firearms but in a true life situation having to "Run and Gun" are totally separate. I would really like to get hr into a basics class to get her started.

There is a place online that supposedly has a class near by but they have yet to answer any emails or phone messages I and others have left. Anyone know of any classes in the Orlando-Tampa area that are more tuned to actually defensive tactics and not VIP protection courses that cost Hundreds of dollars for a 2 hour class?

Thanks

Try a sport shooting free! training

Hi John,

The IDPA sport shooting would be great fun for both you and your Wife, use of cover, multiple shots, practical carry holsters, all good stuff.

IDPA Florida as a search should help you find the Clubs, CFRPC in Orlando, first Sunday of the month, one in Ruskin, not far off the I 75.

Not intimidating, nice people.

The advice I would give to a Lady, dress armed, carry all the time, compact 9mm pistol.

Randy Cain of www.cumberlandtactics.com teaches often at Lakeland at the
www.southernexposuretraining.com facility.
Randys Tactical Handgun 101 for you, and his Ladie's Only class for her.
From his website:

"TACTICAL HANDGUN 101

Our most popular 3-day course is a complete introduction to the defensive use of the handgun. The comprehensive curriculum encompasses all elements of the 'ModernTechnique of the Pistol' and introduces new concepts in tactical applications. The format provides a base in the fundamentals of marksmanship, tactical manipulation, the draw stroke, malfunction clearance, weapon retention, shooting on the move, moving targets, alternate tactical body positions, low-light shooting, and mental conditioning. Other topics include basic one man tactics, working with a partner, and an introduction to team tactics. This course is appropriate for beginners and is also recommended as a refresher for those with experience.
Ammunition Requirement: 600 Rounds.

TACTICAL HANDGUN BASICS

Designed as a 2-day weekend course for those who find it difficult to devote time for training due to their busy work schedules. The focus is on those aspects of training which are most vital to short range personal defense in potentially lethal encounters. The course incorporates the basics of marksmanship with dynamic tactical situations.

Ammunition Requirement: 400 Rounds.

LADIES ONLY HANDGUN

Women can do anything the men can do, sometimes better.

They have an open mind, they listen, and they don't bring preconceived and sometimes misguided notions to the table. I find that women can make great students.

This class is virtually the same as Tactical Handgun Basics, but without all the testosterone pollution in the air. ;)

The 2-day course is adapted to address a few issues specific to women, such as carrying a handgun in a purse, and holster selection based on individual body types.

Ammunition Requirement: 400 Rounds. "

Southern Exposure is the best place to train in FL. Irv's been able to get the best national-level trainers to visit just by the force of his personality.

The only thing keeping me solvent is living three hours away from Southern Exposure. If I lived in Lakeland I'd be broke, taking class after class there. Take a class there, you'll be glad you did.
