I'm new to the red dot sight thing. I grew up with Lyman iron sights and Weaver scopes. I want to put a red dot on a DPMS Oracle, but I don't want to break the bank. (I did that with my Bushmaster Predator/Nikon Monarch). Hold zero and MOA a must. Any thoughts?

You get what you pay for, esp. in optics. Your price range puts you in the poop realm. Save some $ and get a vortex.

Primary Arms is my go to for affordable optics.

It won't be an Aimpoint, but $169 will get you a red dot that works pretty good.

Primary Arms Advanced red dot is the reason I sold my Aimpoint H1. It does everything the $600 sight does for $170. Its *almost as clear, has the amazing battery life and has been documented withstanding pretty extreme torture tests.

One step down in the $70 range is the excellent Bushnell TRS-25. Doesnt have the battery life of more expensive units, but it has survived gas tube mounting on AK's, so thats good enough for me.

Black Spider Optics...have had excellent results myself and customer feedback has been uniformly positive. Comes with a riser that appears identical to the one Seekins sells for ~ $75.

I bought a Primary Arms, 3 MOA dot (dislike the smaller sights like Bushnel TRS25).

It does well. One adjustment (windage) the detent was iffy, now it doesn't click. It does adjust and holds position. Primary Arms said it should be OK, if not, send it back.

I went cheap to test the concept. Did not like it on my AR, found it tolerable on a handgun........but being in varmint chambering, the 3 MOA dot was too big for 100 yd work. So...........it'll get a low power EER scope.

Think the sight would be great on a deer handgun. Since I like the idea, will replace it with an Aimpoint (different TC Contender barrel).

CDNNInvestments.com is a liquidator of fire-arms and related merchandise. Their stock changes all the time and they sometimes get in some very good buys (but they don't last long).

I got a red dot sight from them for my Savage Axis earlier this year for under $100. It easily lined up with the laser boresighter and took eight rounds to fine-tune when I got it to the range. With only 17 rounds having gone through the gun so far, I obviously can't speak to durability, but since I only intend to put a couple dozen rounds per year through the Savage getting ready for and going hunting, durability may not be an issue.
