I know there are a few good websites regarding state CCW laws, like www.packing.org, but where can I find info on possession of "assault weapons" in different states.

The reason I'm asking is that my company was bought out and as of the end of this month I'll be out of a job. I'm thinking of moving back to Connecticut, but I haven't been there in almost 20 years and I hear the gun laws have changed dramatically. Also, I own a couple of - what could be classified as - "assault weapons" so I don't want to break any laws; but I really don't want to give up my guns just for a job...

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

CT is pretty anti-RKBA, but we are miles ahead of NJ. We have a discretionary issue CCW system, but under most instances, the permits are issued. However, you do need a permit to purchase a handgun, and if you don't have a pistol permit or hunting license, there is a 14 day waiting period on long gun purchases.

On assault weapons, you can't have any of the named models or in some instances "types". ie AK-47 type rifle. Type is defined as a weapon that looks like, operates like, and can interchange parts with. On the plus side, there is no mag capacity bans. Some gunshops have AK's in 5.56 or 5.45. You don't get to have evil features on your AR's here either. It's good to contact the DPS Special Licensing and Firearms Unit if you need any specific advice, and I definetely recommend getting a written response. Sometimes, they will give you erronious and even dippy answers.

Thank mp510 - had a CT CCW when I lived there, and had it changed to a non-resident when I moved to NJ. So I guess I'll just get it switched back if I do end up there.
Good to hear about the magazines, but unfortunately I own a Bushmaster AR - and judging from what I've been able to find about the CT AWB, it's "Verbotten". Which stinks.:cuss:
PA is still looking pretty good, but SWMBO doesn't want to move there.:banghead:

CT

Only allowed one 'evil feature' and that will probably be the pistol grip.

Your bushmaster may be ok depending on what you have on it.

here's a link to the statute:
