I currently have a Glock 19C, my first hand gun, but I have been having this itch to get another pistol.I have been thinking about checking out a SIG.
Any comments as to the performance of a SIG , anyone?
What to look for , what not to look for?

Thanks,
Chris from TX.

I prefer my Sig Pro 2340 (in .40s&w) to pretty much all the pistols ive shot, I prefer it over my 1911, my buddies HK2000, and the glocks ive shot, i even prefered it over the classic sig pistols.

Ive shot several sig range pistols and have felt similarly about them, they shoot great and feel like an extention of my hand, the pro just felt the best.

Sigs are excelent pistols, im sure you will enjoy any of them.

edit: Check out the sig forum: http://sigforum.com

I really dont know yet the size I want.I dont really want one too big, its hard enough to conceal my Glock 19c in this hot Texas weather.I have been thinking about a bigger caliber though.A buddy of mine's dad swears by them he has 3 of them , 2 9mm and 1 is a 40 cal. But i haven't got to shoot them yet.But I like the way they grip in my hand.Just thought i would get some more info from some of you guys on here. Thanks for the info.

SiGs are the best. :)

I have a P226 .40. Love it. Not a single malfunction of any kind since day one. Very nice out of the box trigger, and the good thing about Sigs, is that the more you shoot them, the better the trigger gets. SA/DA with no external safety is my favorite operating system.

I doubt the SiG will let you down.

I own 3 Sigs

P226 chambered in 9mm
P225 chambered in 9mm
220ST chambered in .45ACP

They have all been utterely reliable and accurate. I cannot say enough about Sigs but for some reason once you own a Sig....they start to multiply! :)

The 220ST is my favorite!!! .45ACP Ball out of the 220 recoils less than a 9mm+P My girlfriend even manages to sneak in a "few" mags while at the range. :)

For carry the 225 and the 239s are excellent!!

Currently have a 225 and 220. Both are ergonomically fantastic and have excellent balance. Inherently very accurate and so far very reliable. I used to have a 239 in 9mm and 229 in .40. Both also typical excellent SIG accuracy and ergonomics. I sold the 239 to fund the purchase of a 2nd G19 and traded the 229 towards my 220.

If you want it for CCW and will be carrying for hours at a time, then don't buy any Sig until you check out the P-239 9mm. I weighs 25.2 oz empty, is 1.2" wide, comes with 2 eight round mags and is rated for +P. Until I recently bought the Kel-tec P3AT it was the only gun I owned fo rCCW. Check it out, it should be high on the possiblity list...good luck..One other thing about the Sig is, it is one durable gun for it's size and weight. Oh and I forgot to mention it is more accurate than I am

If you want a smaller gun in a bigger caliber, then the 239 in .40 would be the way to go. But if other models of Sigs fit your hand well, the 239 might not. It's not the same grip profile that other Sigs are known for.

I have 3

220
225
228

I love them...sold my Glock to buy one...Plan on adding a 239 or a 226 next

I have a 226 and a 220, both 9mm, both tremendous. There are not many expensive things in this world that are truly worth the money, but Sigs are. Saving up for a Trailside and a GSR. :)

I appreciate all the comments guys, I figured I could get a few SIG guys out there to give me some good info.I've been hearing that for the money they are great guns straight out of the box , and that you dont have to do much to them.Think I might go to the range and rent one and try it out this weekend.

thanks,
Chris

You better bring your checkbook 'cos chances are you'll be walking out with one afterwards!:D

you dont have to do much to them

Just shoot, shoot, shoot, clean (repeat as necessary). :D

FWIW - My 225 is date coded JE (meaning that it was produced in 1984). I bought it used and whomever had it last really put it through it's paces (excessive slide wear, nicks and scratches, slightly rusted trigger bar spring, etc). I cleaned it up, oiled it, bought new grips for it and it's shooting like a champ!

For lotsa SIG info checkout: www.sigforum.com. Tons of info. One of SIG's reps hangs out there now and then.

Sigs are the most reliable autos made. I have three Sigs, never had a malfunction. I have three Glocks, and they are almost as reliable, but not quite. I am not the biggest fan of striker fired guns, I have run into a few hard primers with my Glocks.

I have an old 226 I bought that was a police trade in. It looks like it was dragged behind the space shuttle during landing, it is used up. BUT, it is perfectly reliable will all types of ammo, its amazing.

Probably only a 239, and possibly a 229, will be as easy to conceal as your G19. I have a 239 and I think it is actually easier to conceal, but you are giving up some magazine capacity if that bothers you.

I conceal a 220 pretty easily under a loose t-shirt with a high ride OWB holster.

If you get a Sig you will not be dissapointed. I currently have a Sig 229 and I love it. I've never had one problem with it and it's fired well over a couple thousand rounds. The best part though is that it came in 40 S&W. I bought a 357 Sig barrel for it and then I went and bought a Barsto 9mm barrel for it.

Basically it's a three caliber gun. You don't even have to change the mags. All three calibers fit the mag that comes with the 229. The only difference is how many rounds you can load. Then again, I only load the legal amount. Don't want to cross Mr and Mrs gun grabbin Mass politicians. :uhoh:

I usually shoot at the Garland public shooting range, or in Plano at the Bullet trap.My uncle likes the outdoor range , and he has most of the guns so I usually go to garland with him.I'm a newbie just getting started on my collection.I've only got one pistol. Where do you go?

SIGS are among the best production pistols in the world!

I have owned several and have never, ever had a problem with any of them. My current favorite is my SIG 200ST (45 ACP) and while somewhat heavy (compared to other SIGS) it is an incredible shooter! IMHO you can't go wrong with buying a SIG pistol. Good shooting;)

do you really want a SIG

don't do it if you do you won't be able to stop i have 6 and still i can't stop.they never jam and they are super accurate, thanks, keith

I agree with all the comments so far. For the money Sigs are one of the very best if not the best when you take into consideration both accuracy and reliability. I've owned four and still have three of them so I would have to warn any potential buyers that Sigs can tend to get a little addicting. I hope in the next year or so to get my hands on a 210.

I shot a 229 this week in .357SIG and it was a blast (pun intended) to shoot. Loud and fast, super accurate, but not as punishing as I heard it would be. Recoil was no big deal really. Too bad they are $700+ or I would have had one this week. I will be trying the SigPro2340 in .357 next week and will most likely get one.
