I just bought a few hundred rounds of M118 LC that's loosely packaged. The ammo is supposed to be used for longer ranges. I received the ammo in a cardboard box wrapped in plastic. I'm sure that this ammo hasn't been carefully maintained/handled......mind you it isn't tarnished/corroded. Here's my question: Can I still expect good accuracy out of loose packed ammo?

*Correction*-------->Lake City M118 LR

I've bought near a half dozen "bulk" cans of M118 and been very happy outa good rifles. It's been good enough to not waste on an average shootin' long gun. Make certain you aren't paying for some yahoo's reloads though.

M118, if it was produced pre- '80s is true match grade Ammo- in the '80s, it went downhill fast. In the early '80s though it was strictly forbidden, we would pull the bullets, weigh and sort them, re weigh and divide the powder evenly, and reseat the projectiles to get better results. Some of the "173" gr bullets that weighed as much as 174 gr, some as low as 172. the charges were equally erratic

Until 1996 (?) when it began to be marked as LONG RANGE M118 or M188LR. I have heard this was pretty awesome, and easily capable of sub MOA performance.

the M118 (original) was a 173 gr bullet, the LR was (I *think*) a 175 gr.

It was advertized as XM118 US Sniper/Match 7.62X51 Ammunition. It has a 175 Grain Sierra Match Projectile. Head stamp reads LC 09 LR.

What types of groups are you getting?
