Any thoughts on how I should address a loose roll pin?

My Sig P220 (Equinox w/stainless slide) has a loose pin. The pin has worked its way out twice during dry fire drills (never on the range). I know I need to have it replaced, but I wonder if there is anything else I should do.

Some additional info/questions:
- Gun is ~6 months old, purchased new, ~1000 rounds.
- Gun has been field stripped & cleaned after each range trip
- Only ~25 rounds of +P ammo
- The pin is easy to push back in by hand. Pin stays in place once reset.
- Is this pin suppose to be snug with the slide & breach block? Just one of them?
- Is the roll pin considered a 'wear & tear' item? Is the pin metal softer than the slide & breach block?
- Should I be concerned about existing damage to the slide and/or breach block (see http://http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?t=5804&highlight=roll+pin . Should I consider warranty repair from Sig?
- Are loose pins common? With Sigs?
- Can the pin work loose from excessive lubrication? The pin has always came out on the left side of the gun. This is the side the gun rests on when in the case for storage. (I am not lubricating this area, but I wondering if some oil is making its way there....)

Thanks in advance for your help from this new gun owner & highroad.org member !

Replace the pin and don't remove it as often - there's no need. After shooting, just field strip to clean.

Thanks for the feedback. I am concerned about this condition, especially with a new gun.

Some additional info:
- You can peen a small spot in the area where this occurs. That should secure the pin sufficiently to prevent it from walking out on its own. This may be a good idea. I plan on referring this problem to a gunsmith for repair.
- Replace the pin and don't remove it as often - there's no need. After shooting, just field strip to clean. I have never removed the pin. It has just naturally worked its way out during dry fire.
- Sounds like the pin is undersize. The best option is to replace it. Very well could be. But the gun is brand new from a quality manufacturer. I guess assembly errors could happen ....

Anyone think I should send this gun back to Sig for warranty work? I do not want to be without this gun for a long period of time, but I am concerned that there may be other damage.

He did not say that he has removed the pin before. That particular pin is not meant to be removed on a regular basis. It is not a roll pin, only the old carbon steel slides use a roll pin. The Equinox uses the newer one piece stainless slide. It is a solid pin and you can buy them from Sig as part of their parts kit. You need A 3MM cup tip punch to remove it/insert it. Brownells sells a short starter punch and a longer punch.

Loose pins are not common with Sigs. You should not be able to push the pin in by hand and it should be in their incredibly hard and should never work out on its own. The pin may be undersized or the hole may be oversized. You can send it to Sig or try and put in a new pin yourself. Call them and see what they say. You should not be concerned about the loose pin causing damage and lubrication will not cause the pin to work out. It should not be necessary to peen the pin to make it fit tightly. The pin should fit tight enough on its own. You could peen it, and it would probably work, but that was not how that particular pin is intended to fit.

DO NOT PEEN THAT PIN!!
I'd contact Sig before you do anything. Sig warranty repairs (especially for something as minor as a pin) have a turn around time of about 5 working days.
That pin should be a solid pin - not a roll pin. It should not work its way out. I have many Sigs and have never had a pin - solid or roll pin(s) work themselves out.
Sig CS is outstanding - you might even be able to get a free mag for your troubles - just ask! (It worked for me)
Good luck!

Update:

Here is an update for you -

I ended up sending my P220 back to Sig for warranty repair.
I contacted them, explained my problem, and they provided me with a Service number & prepaid UPS label.

My handgun was promptly returned, repaired & in good shape.
Thanks to Sig for standing behind their product & repairing my gun ! :)

Which indicates you probably got a pin on the low end of the tolerance in a hole on the high end of it. It happens. I see you report SIG, per their excellent reputation fixed your problem and returned your pistol. Try that with almost any other consumer product producer. >MW
